The refs are going to have a real hard time w/ this. They can't even call the games now and throw enough flags as it is. As I said before, the league is trying to make a Hyena a house pet. It just can't be done.

not that I want to extend the game, but if they are going to have these type of calls, there ought to be an expanded review system where you can challenge bang-bang type plays.

Just to be clear...I think it is a terribly imperfect rule but in any case it should go both ways.

No way can they do this. The games are already getting to be too long w/ too much starting and stopping. We'll be watching 4 hour games.

Do it. Players shouldn't lead WITH THE CROWN of their helmets on offense or defense. With the exception that if a ball carrier dives forward, he's fair game to helmet-to-helmet contact like today (no spearing/late hits/etc.). If he slides like a QB, he gets the same protection a QB does (maybe he does already).

And make "stiff arms" illegal too. In an era where defenders ability to tackle, or even interfere with a WR making a catch, are being nitpicked to death: RBs shouldn't have the right to facemask and punch defenders at will.

edit: Tried to clarify what I meant about when the ball carrier dives forward.

I remember hearing on one of those sports shows years ago, that playing in the nfl ever sunday is pretty much the equivalent to getting into a 35-40 mph accident every sunday.

Refs are going to need more flags. What a crock. When I heard this last week it reminded me of one play in particular. Im sure the blowhards will respond, well look at him now he cant even walk, its for the safety of the game blah blah. I know a machinist who worked 30 years cant even open his hands. I know a roofer who has serious back problems.

Matt Forte is not a fan of the rule proposal, as he calls it "absurd."

More rule changes...can't overload more than 6 guys on FG's and PAT's. Not sure what they were thinking here. This is not a dangerous play at all.

O-linemen can't peel back and block once they're outside the tackle box. I guess we can call this the Brian Cushing rule. It seems like everythime someone gets hurt the league wants a new rule. In 10 years they'll just have flags. The Cushing injury could have been prevented had the o-linemen not gone for his knees. That should be the penalty.

Well the rule passed with a 31-1 vote. Stupid if you ask me.

How do you lower your shoulders without your head coming too?? if a ball carrier lowers his shoulders with complete intent with hitting with only his shoulders, but another guy coming full speed at him hits his head, is that a flag?? Do we expect a running back to run straight up and just get blasted by someone running full speed at him?

The same for vice versa for defensive players, when you are trying to hit a guy with you shoulder but he is moving at full speed as well and slightly moved and makes it a head to head hit .....I mean this is crazy to me. A blatent hit with the head under his chin on a guy is an easy call but when guys are going full speed its just impossible to control.

We are taking the tenacity out of the game. This is football these guys know what they are signing up for they have been outspoken and really dislike these rules. The old players that are retired trying to get money from the NFL are ruining it for guys now and Goodell i just cant take. There needs to be something signed that you cannont later try and sue the NFL.
