SmootSmack 11-08-2013, 08:27 AM That last play to Moss should have never been necessary. That said, I thought the play call was fine but Griff put (had to put)? a little too much air on it. I don't think the intention was a fade but a simple corner route
@kevins980
Can't believe anyone w/half a brain would put this loss on Kyle. The D gave up 34 pts on 50 plays! Vikes scored on 6 of 8 drives! Please.
This and then some.
I know people hate Kyle, but it's crazy how people are pointing fingers at the offense for this. We made Ponder look like a legit QB for crying out loud.
Coming into that game the Vikings were near the bottom of the league in total offense and middle of the pack in points per game. 34 points matched their highest ouput in a game this season.
The offense didn't blow a 27-14 3rd quarter lead.
BaltimoreSkins 11-08-2013, 08:44 AM Didn't see it mentioned, but that was Garcon's first back to back 100 yd games as a Skin.
redskin37 11-08-2013, 08:47 AM Off season free agents and draft . O line , defence and special teams. Let the young player get reps . Say thanks to Moss and Fletcher but were moving on with youth.

While Kyle irritates me at times with his propensity to get cute on third and short and near the goalline rather than just pound the rock, it's really hard to kill him for this loss. Its like we forget when the offense would really struggle to score 21 points. If you can't beat a 1 win team with 27 points you probably don't deserve to win any games.
At one point last night Ponder had completed 10 straight passes. Christian Ponder. Who lost his job to Matt Cassell. The same Matt Cassell that lost his job to Josh Freeman. Who was released by a winless team. Yeah, that Christian Ponder.
The bigger picture is not Kyle or even that we 'lost' but that we lost to a 1 win team, missing 4 starters, who didn't even have enough healthy players to complete the MINIMUM roster requirements for an NFL game. That's staggering. The fact we built a 13 point second half lead isn't impressive, we should have done that. The bottom line is, we lack the talent and discipline to be anything but a 3-6 team.
Forget the calls the refs missed. 3 personal fouls, all led to touchdowns. That's on the players and coaches for not coaching the selfishness out of the players. The fake punt debacle, that's what bad teams do in the preseason, not November.
I've been a Shanahan guy but I'm really about ready to pull the plug and let someone else take over. Great pieces on both sides of the ball in Griffin, Morris, Garcon, Reed, T. Williams, Cofield, Kerrigan and I think Amerson. Solid pieces in plenty of other spots but it's time to move on last year's streak and really evaluate the roster for what it is.

What about the misread and throwing to the actual open receiver Garcon on the square in for the TD?
So question, was it the play design or the execution? Because who in their right mind throws a fade to the smallest receiver in the end zone or who puts their smallest receiver on that route to be thrown too? Poor. These are the small things that cost dumb teams.
That being said, because of we like to finger point the defense more responsible for the loss. Pathetic to let ponder have a game like that.
htownskinfan 11-08-2013, 08:51 AM Unfortunately this game turned out just as I thought it would:

You cant blame special teams for losing the game for us,that was an all around effort, but I said it would probably come down to who won the special teams battle and it did.
There was the fake punt that got the 5 yard penalty, then the 15 yarder on the punt which gave the ball to Minnesota with 41 yards to go,TD Vikings.
Then Rocca with a 33 yard punt to give the Vikes another short field at the 50,another Vikings td.
Its time for Rocca to go,he's just too inconsistant,he's good for at least 1 bad punt a game.
If this regime doesnt get a new punter next yr it just shows their incompetence.
Forbath cant kick it in the endzone,so we need to find a punter that can kickoff and punt.

Shanny is a complete fucking idiot for hiring this incompentent fuck. I hope to god we get rid of him and haslett at the end of the year. Sick of the excuses
skinsguy 11-08-2013, 08:56 AM I think what made no sense to me was not giving Morris another shot on the one yard line. Run and then two passes. That came back to haunt us. Wtf was that all about Kyle? You idiot!
I know everyone is on Haslett but to be fair he just doesn't have the players. Fletch is just terrible, Merriweather has been cut twice and we saw why last night. Rak and Kerrigan? Just average players IMO. There's a reason we have the 30 th ranked D. Can anyone collapse the pocket like Minn did to us? If they don't give the ball back to the offense a few times or score they're the worst d in the league. The 3-4 has been a failure and that goes on the head man.
On a positive, Morris is just an animal. I'd like to see him on the field on 3rd down and give him a few screens. RG3 also played very well for most of the game. He was getting out quickly and was accurate. He's getting into a groove. He missed a few as well but way more good than bad. A few times he just had no chance cause his line got pushed back like they were on skates.
Oh no. I don't buy the Haslett doesn't have the players excuse at all. That's an absolute cop out. Look back at the defensive rankings of all of Jim Haslett's defenses over the years - including what he has done in Washington. Not very good. He's just not that great of a coach. I think at the time, he was maybe the best option this franchise had to choose from, but he's not the defensive mastermind the 'skins need to make it all work. You don't have to have a defense full of pro bowlers to have the defense playing well. You just need to know what pieces you have and figure out what scheme works the best.
A great coach, even just a good coach, knows how to bring out the best in the players he has to work with. He knows how to work to their strengths, hide their weaknesses, get them playing consistently to those strengths, and enjoy some level of success even if, at best, it's middle of the road. That's why Richie Petitbon was considered a defensive mastermind. He didn't have the best players on his defenses throughout the years, but he made it work. Yes, we can look back and see guys like Charles Mann, Dexter Manley, Darrell Green and say those guys were great - but look at all of the guys that came in and out of the line up during the Petitbon era. He know how to bring out the best in his players, what formations work the best with which personnel, and most importantly - he knew how to make halftime adjustments. We do not have that in one Jim Haslett. We have a guy who knows defenses, and probably has tried his best to work to his players strengths, but he isn't talent enough to make it work well enough when the players aren't all pro bowl players.
Paintrain 11-08-2013, 08:56 AM Well, we did have a cap penalty and spent a huge chunk of our draft on our offensive star. There are excuses, but I agree that even so they have under preformed. I am so disappointed that some of these younger late round draft picks and the like just haven't developed.
I'm really tired of this excuse and it's factually incorrect. At the end of the day, we're out 3 player (2nd in 2012, 1st in '13 & '14). While significant because of the round, it's not like we are missing out on half a draft class each year as a result of the trade.
The cap penalty is far more damaging than the draft picks, but then again, it's all Redskins chickens coming home to roost from past bad decisions and being in position for the league to bend them over for it.
