I'd say he's worth about 4 more.years around for 20M something along those lines

I see what you are saying moob, but i'd be hardpressed, now this is just me, to rate orakpo as a semi decent pass rusher. He is definite top 10 with all the talent to be top 5. I hope he is not the type to phone it in after getting 48 mill over 5 or 6 years, and I don't think he would. The guy is a team first guy, and has a great work ethic from every report I've ever read.
I mean I don't want to say he's elite, but he's not average either. I'll settle for above-average. I just don't want to commit a huge chunk of cap to him, that's all. Kerrigan will be due eventually and we all know if RG3 rebounds from this year he will get a huge deal in a year or two. You can't be putting most of your money into a small group of players. You think the Ravens want to be paying Flacco elite money now? I like Orakpo, I want him to be here for a long time, I just don't want to be paying him huge money. An above-average deal for an above-average player sounds good to me.

I think it's time to let Rak go. Kruger got 8-9 million? That probably means Rak can get a little more on the open market. We've seen him now for several years and he's not worth that kind of money. The defense last year played better w/out him. I'd save the money and gamble with Jenkins, Tapp and Jackson.
I think you have to take a look at value there. Kruger is quite exceptional against mediocore o-lione talent while Rak has shown the ability to play that level against better D. An additional 1.5 could be worth it. I do agree that the D played well last year with out him and it will depend on what next years coaching staff decides to run.

Michael Johnson, Anthony Spencer and Julius Peppers each get around 11.5 - 12.5 per year. Tamba Hali makes 11.8.
Is there any universe that Brian Orakpo isn't worth 7.5 or 8 mil per year for us?
I think that he might walk if someone offers 10 mil per or above. Unless he is serious about staying a skin, and we up our offer to around 9 or so, I see him going elsewhere. I would cap it at 9 per year though. Backloaded too, in case of that nagging pec acts back up.

I'd say more along the lines of 5 yrs $40M.
$5M a year isn't going to cut it here or anywhere.

I just don't know if he's worth a ton yet

Assuming a new coaching staff, if they wanted to go to a 4-3, would they still want to resign Rakpo? I just think of him more as a pass rushing LB and not a coverage guy.
I just don't know if he's worth a ton yet
What else do you want to see? He's good for about 10 sacks a year, he's playing his best ball this year, he's been to 2 Pro Bowls and could make it again this year. Time to pay the man.
Also keep in mind his rookie deal was 5 yrs $20M. So he's certainly not going to sign the same deal again now that he's a proven player.
