So, what would you opt for? Blow it all and get right back to the cap-top or keep some 5-10 Millions in reserve for opportunities in this season or maybe next year?

Keep some in reserves, it seems like a few teams get in cap hell every year, where they have to cut half their roster loose because they signed too many guys at high price contracts. I'd rather be consistent every year, then ebb up and down w/ the talent on the roster.

I'm guessing that Alf's initial deal is up after next season. Same with Trent. We need to be smart with the cap to keep our key nucleus guys together for 4-5 years without sacrificing depth.

Yeah Trent will be a 70 million dollar guy IMO.

We'll if there aren't enough FAs worth the money we have to spend we need to restructure some guys INTO next season to create flexibility in later years. No reason to walk around next year with more than a couple million for in season moves at the very most. Convert some bonuses into salary and so forth to eat up the extra space then in '15 we should have good space too.

I personally think both Bowen and Carriker need to be let go.Bowen will cost us over 7 mil against the cap and really hasn't done jack the last 2 yrs.1 sack 4 pd and 5 TFL in the last 2 seasons? Carriker is due nearly 7 mill and he hasn't played in 2 yrs.I like Carriker but he is more body builder than football player.

Not sure how much of that is Guaranteed but i'm sure the release of those 2 would clear up some more space.Does that create a hole? Sure but is that position not a hole as it is? Why not clear some space to actually fill it instead of hanging on to these 2?

Also Golston will cost over a mill and he should have been let go yrs ago. This is one of the reasons i was hoping we would move to a 4-3 base. Even with the release of these 3 (and the cap space that would free up) we would still have Cofield , Jenkins and Neild at the DT position with Rak( franchised) and Kerrigan at DE. I think all of those guys are better fits in a 4-3 than a 3-4

i think i'd like to keep orakpo, riley, jackson and doughty... maybe kehl, but only orakpo should be expensive out of that list. if d hall isn't looking for crazy cash, i'm okay with him, but not as our #1 CB.

we NEED a safety and #1 CB, for real. grabbing a WR and OT would be a good move too (price/performance WR, like britt or maybe boldin). OT can basically be any of the top 15 FAs and it'd be a huge improvement.

Read the other night where Hall said he was likely to re-sign and would quote "love " to be moved to safety

Salary Cap Calculator - Over the Cap (http://overthecap.com/calculator/?Team=Redskins)

Haven't seen this anywhere until now.

Pretty sweet tool to fudge around with the cap and see what kind of shape we're in.

I love this site, and all I gotta say is "HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!"

The Redskins need an influx of talent, but the main focus is still going to be the draft. They just need to take this three win team and make sure they have a seven win team going into draft day. Free agents can help put the professionalism back in the organization, but the ascension is going to have to come on the backs of youth.

Put the premium on speed on both sides of the ball and tackling on the defensive side.

Shopping list:

-Re-sign the best pass rusher on the market
-Re-sign Perry Riley
-#1 receiver
-#1 corner
-2 versatile guards that can hold up in pass protection
-A competent (cheap) tackle that can compete with Tyler Polumbus in camp
-Veteran ILB
-Big 3-4 defensive end who actually has a pass rush move or two

That's 8-9 signings, including two re-signings. The #1 receiver is really going to be more of a 1a receiver. True #1 don't hit the market. So your model is really the Chicago Bears (who got Jeffery in the second round). Two nominal #1 types are as good as one stud. And Garcon can be a nominal #1 as long as he's not the best pure receiver in the group.

I'm not totally sold Hankerson won't become that player, but you can't wait on him any longer. He's in a contract year.
