How others rank Brian Orakpo - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/blog/washington-redskins/post/_/id/5803/how-others-rank-brian-orakpo)

Just in case anyone isn't sure how other teams would view Orakpo. I don't have any doubts if we hadn't tagged him there sure as hell would have been another team out there willing to pay him what he wanted.

Has anyone ever franchised a guy and then traded him?

Yep. Oakland has close to 70 million in cap space, and could use a pass rusher like Orakpo.

I'm glad we've brought him back. Now, get a long term deal done and resign Riley.

If we're resigning Riley, it better be on the cheap. That same article discussing how others view Orakpo shows how Riley is practically viewed as a nobody. He's not bad but I don't think anybody will pay him more than D Hall or Chris Baker money.

It's very very rare because the price is so high. Who wants to trade multiple high picks AND fork over a huge contract.

I'm fine with Riley testing the market, in the end I think both sides know this is the best situation for him.

The Skins. Sean Gilbert.

I thought that was just an offer sheet that brought in 2 first round picks. Carolina had already negotiated a contract with him and tried to work a trade out but it didnt happen by the day of the draft. So Carolina just signed the offer sheet with Gilbert after the draft, pushing the two firsts back a year, which the Redskins didnt match.

So what implications does this have on the cap? His cap number is 11.5, so does that mean that will take our available cap down to below 20 mil? Sorry for the ignorance on this cap stuff.

Assuming that our cap is now slightly below 20 mil, what possible scenario do we have in signing free agents?

I would have rather made him test the market. We have too many holes to fill.

Letting him walk just creates another hole.
