MTK 03-03-2014, 03:36 PM So what implications does this have on the cap? His cap number is 11.5, so does that mean that will take our available cap down to below 20 mil? Sorry for the ignorance on this cap stuff. Assuming that our cap is now slightly below 20 mil, what possible scenario do we have in signing free agents? $20M is still a lot of room and we haven't made any cuts/restructures yet. And talks will still continue to get Orakpo locked up long term. los panda 03-03-2014, 04:11 PM anyone know how negotiations are going? NC_Skins 03-03-2014, 04:22 PM And talks will still continue to get Orakpo locked up long term. Not at the type of salary he's wanting. He's not going to get that 11-14mil/yr contract from us. MTK 03-03-2014, 04:28 PM Not at the type of salary he's wanting. He's not going to get that 11-14mil/yr contract from us. Well, for now at least he's getting $11.5. Do you really think his long term deal is going to be for significantly less?? Fiversons 03-03-2014, 04:37 PM I hope they did this in order to iron out a long-term deal with him... We have so many holes to fill, it really hurts that over 30% of our FA Cap is going to one player... chrisl13 03-03-2014, 04:48 PM $20M is still a lot of room and we haven't made any cuts/restructures yet. And talks will still continue to get Orakpo locked up long term. Thanks. Just wanna make sure we can still adequately address our other holes with good guys. Many folks in Rak's situation take a little less per year but on a multi-year deal. They rightly value long-term security over short-term gain. MTK 03-03-2014, 05:25 PM All that's going to matter is what the guaranteed money is. They can make the deal look pretty on paper, but again the guaranteed money is all that really matters. And there could be some sort of team void option built in after year 3, once the money really gets crazy per year. Schneed10 03-03-2014, 05:29 PM So what implications does this have on the cap? Assuming that our cap is now slightly below 20 mil, what possible scenario do we have in signing free agents? In this case, yes. He will be a $11.5M cap hit this year. We carry him at $11.5M as of today, our available cap space is now the $30M, less Orakpo at $11.5, less D Hall's hit of $2.0, less the Chris Baker hit of $2.5 or whatever, plus the 3 guys getting bumped out of the top 51 at 1.5. So current cap space should be in the neighborhood of $15.5M. |
