What is the MOST important off-season change?

Hire a competent GM ..... not named AJ Smith.

He has been in-house for awhile with Allen and the DS.

We need someone who is not BFFs w Allen.

We need someone who will have autonomy from allen/DS.

We need someone whose ability to get the job doesnt depend on how well he or she fakes having a good time watching the Superbowl with the DS and Allen.

Good luck with that. It seems that the whole point of owning the team is to provide Snyder with friends.

Kinda strange we havent heard Bruce speak to the media for awhile.

im guessing they decided before this season started that they would not speak to the media until after the season = to try and limit in-season distractions.

unfortunately ... all those leaks came out and there was a ton of in-season but off-field distraction anyway ...


the result = rookie head coach jay gruden is left to face the firing squad week after week answering roster, personnel and GM related questions alone ....



really hope bruce doesnt think naming AJ as the GM answers all questions and absolves him.

On how responsible he feels for this season and the record over the last four years:
“I feel very responsible. I think I said that at the beginning that everyone here feels responsible, and in my position it’s what creates the pain because I can see where we want to go, I can feel where we want to go, and I know that the players have that same drive. So I feel responsible for it. We’re all accountable for our record. That’s the great thing, once again, about sports. I’m 3-13 as is Tony Wyllie over here.”

as for firing the OL and switching to a power blocking scheme, you guys should join the chorus of "our defense is only bad cause it's not a 4-3." Your getting caught up in semantics and maybe not actually watching the run game. we do some of both, just like our D actually plays a LOT of 4-3.

our guys are generally lighter and better at zone blocking, our run game in ZB has been fine, and the coaching has been fine. our OL is more speed than power though, so switching to a system that doesn't fit the players you have (or could get in one offseason) is a really stupid idea. the whole point of ZBS is that you can get cheap guys and get a good run game out of them. we've been bad in pass pro for a while though, and part of that is the players we have just aren't that great at it.

we've got a great LT, a very good C. both OG spots at a bit meh, and RT has been an issue for a while, but saying to blow up it just shows that you're not considering or concerned with the fact that you can't just go out and buy an entire new OL in FA or draft one and get them ready to start in one offseason. our scouting department has also been extremely bad at scouting OL, since we've seen 2 reaches not work out and a big money contract given to a very forgettable FA.

Trent Williams and Cory Lichtensteiger are the only legit starting O-linemen on our roster today. If we ever hope to dominate in the trenches again, it starts with drafting linemen in the first two rounds, something that this team has done just twice in 15 Dan Snyder drafts (Trent Williams and Jarvis Jenkins).

South of Snyder wising up and selling or backing completely away I am increasingly convinced there isn't anything that can be done to truly turn the org around.

ESPN Cleveland suggests Kirk Cousins may be the Browns' "prime target" as they search for a quarterback this offseason.

Browns OC Kyle Shanahan is fond of Cousins, who was drafted by the Shanahans in 2012 with Washington. If Cleveland plays its cards right, it should be able to acquire Cousins for a late-round pick. The Browns reportedly tried to trade for Cousins during the 2014 draft, offering the Redskins a fourth-round pick. At the time, the Skins wanted "at least a second." Browns beat writer Tony Grossi expects Cousins to be the Browns' "top target" this offseason.
