Let me cherry pick the last sentence of your first paragraph. For the first time in a long time, our organization is not about next year.
I get the feeling it is about building a team that has the depth to compete year in and year out.
The success that SF enjoyed because of the new GM didn't occur immediately. They endured several bad losing seasons while building not buying talent and depth. When he left them for Seattle, SF was big, talented, and had great depth. They barely missed a beat due to injuries.
We need to be one of those organizations. The new GM's philosophy prioritizes long term success rather than instant gratification. I love this move by our FO.
But we still have Bruce. And if you think he is going to be content printing tickets while others do all the cool stuff, I'd like to sell you the Brooklyn Bridge.
Why is it a given that Jay is fired next year? He's finally got the reigns to hire his own staff. How about we give him some time. It works for real teams.
THIS is the best shot he has had. A real GM! A REAL talent and football guy. Hopefully an improved Defensive coach and unit

I'm not worried. He will be busy mowing the grass.

One of the points of emphasis I noticed in the presser was the need for the owner to have patience. It seems that McC wanted assurances of independence, resources, and patience from the owner in order to take the job. Let's hope Snyder keeps his word in these areas.

FWIW, and probably not much - I've talked to a couple of defensive players and so far they would all want Wade Phillips as the guy.

Well, <cough> Raheem Morris <cough> certainly not a ringing endorsement of anyone currently on the staff
