Sheriff Gonna Getcha 05-30-2005, 11:32 AM You guys realize that Julius Jones started 7 games after coming back from injury and rushed for 803 yards in those games? That's on pace for a 1840 yard season. The guy is going to be flat out amazing in this league, the next Curtis Martin, and if the Cowboys had him healthy all season long last year they would have been at least 8-8. Add in the defense and improvement at QB, you have to like their chances to get to the playoffs.
And come on guys, as much as we hate him, we all know Parcells knows what he's doing.
In addition to Julius Jones, I really think they'll have a comeback year on defense - at least their talent suggests as much. They've always had a good front four (and now front three), plus they added two 1st rounders (in DeMarcus Ware and Marcus Spears), they added 2nd round linebacker (in Kevin Burnett), anf they now have three good corners in Aaron Glenn, Terrance Newman, and Anthony Henry.
With a good running game and defense, you've got yourself a good team (i.e. Steelers and Falcons).
BigSKINBauer 05-30-2005, 11:40 AM Lets break errrr down.
Ok QB, they are better at QB but if we really suck with ramsey(i don't think we will) we can throw in the rookie
RB- Jones is a rising star as Portis is a proven star
WR- i think they are pretty even but i know we have more potential than them. We have more depth and i would take moss over slow fat keyshaun any day.
TE- OK they win this battle but remember, ROyal stepped up with 4 TDs in last 5 games.(one against them cowgirls)
Ofensive line- they got their dominant 3 we got our dominant 3 the x factors are the other 2 and i am sure that rabach is gonna get errrr done for us this year.
Defense- ok our defense is good for no reason. It is good just because it is good. We can't say that we have the best players in the league. we can't say that we sent 5 defensive players to the Probowl but friends we can say that we were the NUMBER 1 DEFENSE IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE. y? One reason only williams GW. defesive line,ok they are better but we got griffin and daniels and rising star Salavae. LB- ok don't even compare. WE don't have the best linebackers in the league but they are the best, if you get what i mean. We had the "no name defense" but now people know them. Our LBs last year (washington pierce and MARSHALL) surprised everyone. This year we have better players at the LB position- Lavar. washington. mccune, possibly barrow. and holdman and the more depth than we need. and i would take our LBs any day over theirs
DBs- CBs they have henry now and newman is pretty good but it doesn't compare to springs, rogers harris wilds and JIMOH- remember we put harris and wilds in there with randy moss and still did good.
FS- no comparison
SS- Ok they might be better.
Offensive- The have better QBs, TE we have better RBs and i would take our WRcorp over theirs and don't forget our HB cooooooooooley
Defense the have better dline and ss we have better everything else.
So it is almost even at offense we beat em at D but the x factor is coaches and who got 3 rings and who got 2. and who had belichik and who didn't.
We will win atleast 1 next year we only lost by 6 total points last year and the first game was b/c of them damn refs. and we did get beat the second game, fairly but we could have won
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 05-30-2005, 12:30 PM BigSKINBauer,
Some of the above post I definately agree with. But the following I have to disagree with:
(1) They've definately got us at TE.....Royal just doesn't compare to Whitten.
(2) We had the #3 defense last year...in terms of yards/game
(3) Salave'a was decent DT, but I don't think he's a "rising star"
(4) They've got a better group of CBs in Glenn, Newman, and Henry.
(5) I hardly think a few series is a good enough basis to say Wilds and Jimoh are going to Honolulu any time soon....or will even crack a starting lineup.
(6) SS "they might be better"......not even Taylor is as good as Williams....yet....and he plays FS. Bowen, Lott, or Clark aren't even in the same ballpark as Williams.
I'm not meaning to single you out, I just disagree with some of your above post.
jrocx69 05-30-2005, 02:22 PM marco rivera is out i believe with back surgery right after dallas signed him. he was running on a treadmill and cracked his tail-bone or something. to whom it may concern, i dont think he's gonna do squat this coming up season

My understanding is that Rivera's surgery didn't jeopardize his season. I do hope you're right though about him not doing squat. The Cowboys overpaid last season for the aging Marcellus Wiley; let's hope Rivera follows in Wiley's footsteps.
Schneed10 05-30-2005, 03:23 PM I'm not a fan of trying to break a team down position by position, player by player. It just doesn't work in the NFL like it does in MLB or the NBA. In those sports you can say OK at Center the Heat have an advantage with Shaq over Ben Wallace, or at 1B the Cardinals have an advantage with Pujols over the Giants with JT Snow.
In the NFL, no matter how much you break a team down, it still comes down to who fits their schemes better, who is better at coming up with the schemes, and whose players play better as a team. If you look at the Patriots, they'd come up on the short end if you did a player by player matchup with some other playoff teams. But they win.
In the NFL, there are a lot of ways to win games. Bottom line is I'm concerned that Bill Parcells knows how to win in many ways, and knows how to deploy his schemes, and he has proven that he knows how to use players that fit his scheme.
I'd rather compare our coaching staff to Parcells and the Cowboys coaching staff, rather than go player by player. And might I say, what a matchup it is. I think both the Skins and the Cowboys will be decent teams this year and have a couple epic battles. This is definitely a coach's league.
wolfeskins 05-30-2005, 03:43 PM i havs a good feeling that the skins are gonna be a more competative team this season than weve seen in a long time. they started to show their competiveness last year but with the players stiil here and the new ones brought in, i'd say "we aint seen nothin yet".
this is going to be a good year to be a skins fan :biggthump

I understand you aren't singling me out:) but i will adress the issues
1) honestly i think whittin is better than Royal but like i said royal did better at the end of the season,
2) I made it sound better i said we have the best defense in the NATIONAL Conference not in the whole league
3) I like Salavea
4) I just think once Rogers gets in we will have a better CB corp and we have been pretty consistant at CB for a while.
5)O i agree just making a point that they aren't half bad, i like ADE though, i think he could be good
6) I meant that he is beter, i did right " ok they might be better" but i meant that almost sarcastically, he is better and i know none of em compare
By the way julius jones-----2.6 yards per carry against us and 57 yards
(he is good don't get me wrong, just pointing out how good we were )
Scott 05-30-2005, 05:05 PM One of the biggest factors to the Cowboys success that hasn't even been discussed yet is the fact that the Cowboys are switching to the 3-4. This is a huge change in philosophy for a lot of players...the key to the success of the team will be how the DL and LBs adjust....
We know that there offense will be average at best..nothing spectacular with an aging QB and average WRs, Jones will be a horse and Parcells will get the best out of him...
diehardskin2982 05-30-2005, 05:08 PM The cowboys will not be as good as everyone thinks. Bledsoe is good, but he isn't as good as he used to be. He cannot handle the rush. So I think they'll will have problems agianst the skins especially because of Williams blitz schemes. Their line is a big question mark. Rivera has played a steller career with the Green Bay Packers; but he's only been with the Packers, no one knows how he will mesh with a whole new line, it takes years for offensive lines to gel and develop that trust. We should know that better than anyone. Allen has become a mere shadow of his former self. If any of those wideouts get hurt, cowboys don't have the depth to make a true impact in the passing game especially without glenn, he's thier best reciever. the only threat i see on offense is the combination of Julius Jones and A-Train.
As for the defense, it's decent but how will the loss of vetran leadership with dexter and woodson impact their performance. I think the skins future looks alot brighter.
