Why Are You More Conservative or Liberal?

When you think about your core values, you can think about the two or three biggest things that bother to your core, things you just can't get right with.

For me it comes down to:

1) People who don't take accountability for their actions, or who make excuses for why they can't do something, bother me to my core and are not deserving of social services. The republicans are the side more willing to uphold these basic principles: you are worth what your abilities and hard work combine to allow you to garner on the market. Nobody owes you shit. Either earn your way or shut up. This is why, as much as I can't stand Donald Trump, I'd begrudgingly take him over Bernie Sanders if forced to make that choice.

2) People who use their power to take advantage of those not in power, whether through abuse of military social or economic might. I'm very hawkish and do believe that not just the United States, but all peace loving nations with military might should indeed be policing the world in any place where the citizens either can't afford to police themselves, or are oppressed militarily such that doing so is impossible. Of course, while in an ideal world I'd love to overthrow Kim Jong Un and free the people of North Korea, the threat to the United States is significant, and you'd need a hell of a plan to deal with China and Russia, so a level of practical thought has to come into play there.

3) And to that point, people that don't deal in reality, but rather think and act (and vote) based on ideals. Anyone who can't manage to a budget, basically, which Republicans used to be better at, and now everyone is terrible with it.

"How we live is so different from how we ought to live that he who studies that which ought to be done rather than what is done will learn the way to his downfall rather than to his preservation." Machiavelli

I've read some interesting stuff about how we lean politically is more biological than we realize... not really a choice, just who we are. Makes sense.

From my experience I think a person's wallet is the overriding factor. Most people vote for the party that protects their financial well being. One example, someone on public assistance will never vote for a Republican.

I think the trump fan base at least a good portion of it is a good example of that not being true.

Trump ran against a bigger piece of human trash than he is. He only won because who he ran against. I think you pretty much need to toss the 2016 presidential election as an aberration.

Still way up for debate on that, the longer he is in office the more people are changing their mind on that. Some republicans feel they must think that way to justify the mistake they made and it just doesn't float.. As I have stated before and will again I wanted Kasich .

Yeah idw pile on Bob right now but one of my best friends' mom (who I've known for 17 years now) is on disability, food stamps and is also a diehard Trumper. She loves his anti-immigration stance. I already tried telling her he doesn't support people living off the gov't either but she only hears what she wants to hear.
