A constant problem last year with the defense was free styling and not buying into the scheme. This year started slow and now the defense is rolling…do you think there is any concern from staff of Chase coming back and breaking up this chemistry?
Replacing the Dline coach seems to have really help this defense a lot
Agreed. Hate to say it but it definitely looks like Sam Mills wasn't the right guy for the job.

is it odd CY didn't play yesterday or at least suit up maybe for a play or two. This has to be one of the longest recovers for a knee for anyone. I feel like we the fans are in the dark a bit with what is really going on.

Apparently he caught the flu bug that has been going around the team. Regardless, given the weather conditions I doubt whether they would have risked it anyway

I just don't want him to interfere with how well the dline has been playing. Not giving up on C Young, but we need to see something soon. He is quickly in year 3 in the NFL.

He’s still not even a year out from a pretty complicated injury that wasn’t the typical ACL injury. I think we need to relax.

CY will play when he's ready.. He's just an added bonus at this point. If he can stay healthy all year next yr it would be nice

At this point him playing will be about him coming back and making progress in being comfortable on the field. He's not gonna come back and be a stud right out of the gate.
Notice how long it took B.Rob to come back from getting shot to being comfortable? This was the first week he really looked comfortable, juking guys and shifting around. I expect it to take CY99 a similar amount of time - he's gotta learn to trust his leg again.

Yeah, this year is now about knocking the rust off and gaining confidence in the knee going into next season. Any sort of above average production would be gravy.
Play solid and stay healthy, would be a good end of the season for him now.

I’ve lowered my expectations for CY a couple of notches because (1) he wasn’t the transcendental player we were hoping for when we drafted him . . . more of an Arrington type whose physical prowess played better in college, and (2) his injury was more than garden variety, the kind that can f with your confidence. I’m hoping for a triumphant return next year, and CY at 90% is a good addition to any team. But we may soon be maxing out on d-line contracts and do better letting another team gamble on his future.

Allen has been extended and I think we need to keep Payne.
The team will likely have to make a choice between keeping Sweat or Young.
I think Young has more Lawrence Taylor type potential, but with a higher bust potential too. I think Sweat will be a more consistent, lower floor type guy, like Kerrigan.
If we keep Allen, Payne, and either Young or Sweat, we will have an above average front at worst.
I hope we keep Payne and figure out the DE position after that. Allen and Payne are kicking ass. Kicking ass up front, on either side, is always good.
