That Guy 09-04-2005, 08:10 PM Greg Williams may be too, but he will work with the talent we already have. None of these guys have the pass rushing skills and moves of a premier DE and that includes Arrington.
LA did have 10 sacks in a season, and we still had 40 sacks overall last year (pittsburg had 41, leader may have had 44-48)... so i'd disagree that LA can't do it. And I agree a premier DE would be great, but we're getting good sack numbers in other ways.
Gmanc711 09-04-2005, 10:37 PM For me it was Warner. I thought he was a very bright spot last season on our defense, and I thought he was really an up and coming player. Someone must be better than him, though, so thats always good news.
Sheriff Gonna Getcha 09-04-2005, 10:39 PM McCune was definitely overhyped because of his impressive appearance, but then again that was the book on him coming out of college. The experts said he was a workout warrior and somebody would fall in love with that aspect and take him.
But do you think the coaching staff would actually waste a 5th round pick on a guy who simply could run fast and was big? I actually think the coaching staff saw something more in him than that. They were wrong and admitted their mistake by cutting McCune and signing him to the practice squad, but I doubt they drafted him simply on the basis of his size and speed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they saw him with his shirt off and that's why they took him.
But at the same time many teams (and fans) make the mistake of falling in love with players that look the part, but maybe aren't as impressive on the field.
McCune needs work. Probably more work than the coaches thought he would need. He's raw and and that was the book on him coming out of college, but I think alot of fans looked past that and the only thing they saw was his physical attributes and figured this guy has got to be a baller.
The main thing with him right now is his mental game isn't anywhere near his physical game, but once it catches up he could be a quality player.
backrow 09-05-2005, 02:52 PM I wasn't surprised with any of them. No starters amongst the cuts. No starters re-signed to the PS. I abstained from the vote since "No surprises" was not a choice.
jermus22 09-05-2005, 03:23 PM Not terribly surprised by all the cuts, just disappointed that some of them weren't eligible for the PS. I picked Warner since it would seem to make more sense having a 5th DE instead of a 5th DT. I'm still not sure why we kept Killings and Boschetti, but at least we have Aki Jones on the PS. Sheesh, we have six DTs when you count the PS and only four DEs, one of whom is injury prone. Maybe Chris Clemons will spend some time as a pass-rushing end like Lavar.
AnonEmouse 09-05-2005, 05:23 PM Or filling in on 3rd down at LB when Arrington lines up on the line?
The only surprise, if you can call it that, for me is Farris. Whilst he's not exactly lit things up, I consider him a better option than Brown at WR. Brown is on the roster as KR not as a WR. I think any more injuries at WR (i.e. Jacobs) and we'll be scouting around for depth again.
uhohjimoh 09-05-2005, 05:42 PM Garnell, he did an ok job last year , and im suprised with all the injuries we had to our dbs last year we didnt keep more around as insurance..plus in the vikings game he did a pretty good job against moss.
sigh....another year withe ade...

I thought he was up and coming too, till i looked and saw that warner was 30 and has been in the league for 8 seasons!!! (with a grand total of 17 tackles).
I'm guessing they chose evans over him because evans is a better tackler and 4 years younger.
uhohjimoh 09-05-2005, 05:51 PM and cheaper maybe??
