Very sad . Very hard working man , a true Redskin , way to young to pass away . RIP to the Kaufman family .

Mel was a solid guy on and off the field. He played hard on every down for a defense that did not get the recognition that it deserved for being one of the best in their time. It was guys like him that made the Skins tough in the hey-day of the 80's.

Sorry to see him go... Another piece of my childhood has just died as well. RIP Mr. Kaufman. Prayers go out to his family and friends.

Update: Kaufman died of hemmorhagic pancreatitis. Not exactly sure what that means but I believe his pancreas got inflamed and bled so much (not sure how) that it blocked the flow of something, something vital
