One of the REDSKINS great LB's. So very young. May GOD rest your soul and be with the family and friends in there time of need.

Wow thats terrible. He was one of my favorite players on defense along w/ Monte Coleman and Dexter Manley.

It doesn't state what he died of. 50 yrs old is way too young to die. May he rest in peace

What awful news. As 12th said Kaufman was true Redskin. 50 is way too young to pass. RIP.

I tried searching around online for his cause of death. It's still unknown at this point, with an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow. Very sad. RIP Mel.

Very sad. I remember him as a "Donnie Warren" type player. Not flashy or obnoxious, just had a workman type attitude and a good guy in general. Ahh those were the days when Kaufman was playing. I miss those days and now I'll miss Mel Kaufman.
