Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
I guess it surprises me how many of you were expecting great things, given our recent history of prime time games against the gints. I was waiting for a kick in the balls and it still hurt. Oy.
KC will get to the bye, I suppose, but he isn't showing it. INTs are just not acceptable and his numbers speak for themselves. The game plan was fine--they were stacking the box and knew we wanted to run. That should have opened up the pass--that's sort of the point of having the run game, no? Plus, we got in a hole and that limits the play calling. On the other side, Eli is obviously in a different class, but we also helped with NO PRESSURE. Easy to throw if you can just sit back like practice. Specials: unacceptable penalties: unacceptable Bottom line: we're more than a few players away, so this is what you gotta expect. QB is high on the list, though we should continue to build inside out, IMO. Get Ross on the field. Beat Philly. Gotta go ice my frickin balls. |
This team is just still not very good. A strong ground game on Offense and Defense can keep you in and win games even with bad special teams play, but having a QB that can't make plays for you when the game is on the line, and has bad judgement is just too big a hurdle to overcome.
KC may get better, I know people have posted his numbers compared to the start of some elite QB's numbers at the same point in their career, but I think you could find many more examples of young QBs with similar stats that did not improve. For example this is how he compares with Patrick Ramsey: G GS Cmp Att Cmp% Yds TD Int Rate Y/A AY/A AY/A Cousins 16 11 284 465 61.1 3429 20 21 79.2 7.4 6.2 6.2 Ramsey 16 12 246 463 53.1 3169 17 14 78.2 6.8 6.2 6.2
I accidentally posted before making my point. It is too early to say which way he will go, but to me just watching the games, he looks more like a young Ramsey than a young Manning. I will be rooting for him, but realistically this team needs to be a lot better before we can win consistently with him at QB. One other thing, everyone says all you need is a 'game manager' I only buy that if you have a great all around Defense, otherwise you also need someone who can make plays for you. All in all, Kirk is alright I guess, and we need to focus on building depth on the lines and in the secondary, but if SM spots a steal on a QB with even a little more playmaking ability, I think it would make a big difference to this team to grab him. |
I agree with this post. While I think most of the criticisms in this thread were warranted, too much is expected of this year's team by some of us. We have a long way to go before we become contenders.
My anchor is my belief in SM. As long as we have SM, I think we have a chance to get where we want to be in three years. Yes, I think it's going to take three years of hard work. That includes three FA classes, three drafts, three years of trades, UDFA's, stashing players on the practice squad, developing players, cutting the players who don't belong, etc, etc. Meanwhile, we'll probably lose more games than we win this season. So, I'm trying to stay positive, enjoy the wins, and forget the losses.
So why not trade off a few players for draft picks if u feel that why. This team no a Super Bowl contender, but you fooling yourself if you think without better qb play they can't win 9 or 10 games!! Guys were so open last night it would have open up the run for the rest of the year. Every time would have to respect the passing game. This team is only off b/c of HC and qb. That defense keep it close for a while and Kirk play terrible!!! |

Like today, I'm already over it, on to Philly. |
Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
Re Cousins 2 interceptions. I think the second is much worse than the first.
1st int - the giants were game planning to only have to defend the short or mid range routes. prince is able to let the play develop in front of him, predict the route and jump it. garcon did a poor job of running a wide sloppy angle instead of cutting in front of prince to make sue he had inside leverage on the ball. if we dont stretch the field in the passing game, every D Coord will have their guys playing the short to mid stuff, keep the play in front of them, and allow them to jump routes. corners and safeties do not have to worry about contain or a guy getting behind them. the pass plays are becoming very predictable w Desean out. making it way to easy to gear up on the run and keep pass plays in front of defenders. i want cousins to make that same throw, i want garcon to run a sharp route and i want us to dial up some long balls so defenders cant assume our receivers will be breaking no farther than 12-15 yards down the field. 2nd int - cousins has to know down, distance and when to press and when to not press. he said in an interview this preseason that he has to learn to not force a throw in every situation, particularly when the risk is high (squeezing/forcing it in), but the reward is small (4-8 yd gain at best). 1st and 10 on the giants 34. cousins CANNOT force that ball to carrier. its first down, the play broke down, you have already scrambled outside the tackles .. just throw it away. |
Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
I don't mind losing to the likes of the Patriots or Packers -- truly elite teams that we're not realistically going to beat. For those games, I want to see some fight and for it to be respectable.
But for games like last night and the Dolphins for that matter, we can beat those teams. It would just be nice for us to win our fair share of those games, and we don't seem to do so. We had all kinds of chances to score points and eliminate mistakes, and just didn't get it done. The Giants and Dolphins are mediocre. Unfortunately, I think the reality is -- so are we. (Maybe the franchise took Zorn's "stay medium" admonition a little too much to heart.) |
Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
The giants really just own us. I was praying for a miracle win last night and nothing. It hurt I actually couldn't even sleep I was so mad. It wasn't that I thought we would win the east all of the sudden but man to get rolled once again on live TV u can't help but to get pissed.

Lots of insomniacs on this board I bet (myself included). A friend who is a huge Patriots fan called me yesterday to tell me that as it's Thursday night against the Giants, we won't be in the game at any point. Honestly, if he calls me today, I am going to get some blowtorches and wrenches and get medieval.... |

Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
Can't understand the hate on Cousins. Yes i know he is a 4th year player, but this is his first and only season where he has began the year as the starter, gotten all the 1st team reps, etc.. If we are to be fair in his assesment, you have to at least give him one full season as being the starter, maybe even more, before moving on.
How many seasons did Jason Campbell get? 4 seasons? RG3 got three seasons. Cousins needs to at least get two seasons as starter under his belt before we can really judge him, IMO
It because people are so caught up with the splashy 1st round picks or the cool names like RG3.. If someone cant't see he has alot of talent, then they are blind. All QB's throw picks. Maybe the Colts will cut Luck because he threw 3 picks last week.. |
How will Gruden continue to sell Snyder and the fans on Cousins?
Well it goes like this. I have three not so good qb's at the moment and he is the least not that good one i got. Wth are his options? |
Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
What we saw last night from Cousins was his continued failing to step up when the pressure is on in a big game. HE still could have rebounded from his two blatant mistakes but he failed to do so time and again with his inaccuracy. He is flawed. If we give him 13 games to prove himself he will be a backup the rest of his career.
There are reasons why he was never traded the last few offseasons.
Looked like to me he started to get it together in the 2nd half. Did you forget the Jones, and Garcon fumbles? P.S. the Jets just tried to trade for him before the season.. |

Re: Giants Post Game Reactions
I hope Cousins is the answer, the QB class this year is terrible. Goff is the best QB, but he is so small, he will get blasted, and have a hard time holding up.
Jones - looking like a 1 hit wonder Hackenburg - completely overrated Cook - everything I read about him says he is similar to Cousins, even same school, inaccurate and turnover prone Ehhhhhh? Do we want any of those guys? |
