Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
40 yard kick = 1 point
55-60 yard kick or conversion from the 2 yard line = 2 points something along those lines may spice things up. |

Do you mean like from the sideline? That would be AWESOME.
So make it a 40 yard kick, like they were saying on PTI - don't eliminate it make it more exciting.
1 point isn't worth a 40yd fg. It is supposed to be a bit of a chip shot. Still I like the idea of doing away with it, and adding the +/- 1 risk/reward to the attempt if you go for it instead of kicking it. |
40 yard kick = 1 point

Standard PAT - 1 pt 40 yard PAT - 2 pts 50 yard PAT - 3 pts It would certainly make for some really interesting comeback scenarios, and there wouldn't be as much of a need for desperation onside kicks that don't ever work. So if you were down by 9 you could still come back with one possession. And a team up by 7 could still clinch a 2 possession game with a field goal, but up by 6 you'd have to think a bit harder about going for it on 4th. Oh yeah, and kickers would be gettin PAID! |
Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
I think it would also be kinda fun if the net had pockets in it for different amounts of points given or taken away, but that might be a little to silly.

A 40 yd field goal is worth 1 point when you had to do no work to get that field position. The problem is it's too easy, solution: make it harder. We don't need to revamp the entire scoring system. |
Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
Maybe kill two birds with one stone, and stop fighting the players with celebrations while revamping scoring. Allow excessive celebration for extra points and have celebrity judges or fans text in the score and award extra points based on their score.
And I'm spent . . . :joecool: |
Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
ok let's combine the extra point with the kickoff. A TD is worth 6, the team can choose to run a play for 1 point, and then if on the kickoff the kicker makes it through the uprights (or converts a successful onside kick), the scoring team gets one more point.
So you could earn 8 points by: a TD, a successful play from the 2yd line, and either a kickoff through the goal post or a successful onside kick. 7 points from a TD, and one of the following a successful onside kick, a kickoff through the goal post, or a successful play from the 2yd line followed by a kickoff that does not go through the goal post. and finally 6 points by a TD, followed by either no try or unsuccessful try from the 2 yrd line and a normal kickoff (unsuccessful onside/not thru goal post) |

I like that and maybe like golf, if you do not get it past the ladies tee's you hit your shot with your pants around your ankles..... Cannot wait to see a kicker contend with that......... |
Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
$hit can the pro bowl. Keep the xpoint.

At first I didn't love this concept but after thinking about I think it obviously the best choice. TDs are currently worth 7 points anyways because the kick is so easy. Making a TD officially 7, eliminating the kick aspect, and integrating the +1/-1 go-for-it option essentially makes it exactly the same as it now. But games can be shorter and I'll bet we see more teams going for it too. |

Definitely not. Keep it simple. |

I think the result would be dramatically less go for it attempts. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk |
