Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
I don't think i've saw this posted anywhere else yet, so if it has been, please move it.
I saw this headline today and thought this is the stupidest thing i've ever heard of. It is one thing to try and improve player safety, but this borders on stupidity. Would this mean that kickers are mostly abolished, since Goodell currently has them mulling over eliminating the kick off completley?? NFL considering proposal to abolish extra points - NFL.com He says that partially fan excitement factors into their decision, feeling that 99.9% of the time the extra point is almost automatic. This guy sucks, seriously. I could see him saying that one day he envisions a 32 team playoff scenario because the "fans would be excited"....

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
Actually wouldn't mind it but I don't like his one idea given of a negative point from seven. I'd say give 2 options: a 1 point attempt from the 2 or a 2 point attempt from the 5 yard line. I think goodell has a decent idea, but id like to see it in a probationary 1 year experiment.

I personally dont see the big deal with it. The PAT affects a game in a meaningful way once every 4 or 5 years. A couple of games here and there have been lost due to a missed PAT, but not enough to matter imo. Although I dont buy Goodells reasoning. I dont believe its about exciting plays so much as its about extra commercial time. Add one commercial per TD scored. |

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
Don't eliminate them. If he wants to make it more interesting, move it back. Instead of the 3, move it back to the 8 and make it a 25 yard attempt.

Good. The extra point is useless.
Need to make a TD worth 7 instead of 6 if it is eliminated.

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
"There's one proposal in particular that I've heard about," Goodell went on. "It's automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six."

I kind of like the idea. Think it would make the games a bit quicker since most of the time it would go straight from the TD to the kickoff.

I'm an old timer and hate all the changes made by Goodell, he is ruining the best American sport. If it ain't broken...

Re: Roger Goodell says NFL considering eliminating extra point
No one could objectively be against eliminating the PAT. It is literally useless in terms of entertainment. Being against it would simply be a grumpy old man type fear of change.
