Classless Coach Belichick
I know, I should wait until 24-hrs. before I post. But, my emotions have the best of me at this moment. What a classless act Bill Belichick is. O.k., we're down 38 to zip late in the 2nd half and this fuck is throwing deep routes and anything else that may put more points on the board! What did we do to piss him off already?? Granted, the Pats out played us, out coached us, out scored us. Give them credit for that. They are an awesome force. But, when they had us beat, and beat bad, what did they do? They kept pouring it on. Enough! We're done. We're toast. Raise the freakin' white flag! I have never been a proponent of dirty play, but after it became apparent that Belichick was going to run up the score on the 'Skins, I would have sent the house on Brady on every single play. Yep, damn the torpedos. Even if it had caused a personal foul each and every blitz, if I were Gibbs and/or Greg Williams, I'd have pummeled Brady for Belichick's transgression. Buried his ass in the turf. Brady seemed so smug on the sidelines anyway. I only watched the end of the game to see what Gibbs' reaction would be when he met Belichick to shake hands. I was hoping for something similar to a Chuck Noll / Jerry Glanville interaction. Back in the day, Noll at least had the balls to get in Glanville's grille and let him know how he didn't appreciate how "Glandville" ran up the score on the Steelers that day. I have yet to see, or hear, any response from Gibbs after this embarrassing loss, but after the clock ran out, the camera was following Gibbs and it appeared that he simply avoided Belichick and ran off the field. Someone please tell me that I missed something and that Gibbs addressed this issue and stepped up for the team. Because if he didn't, I've lost a great amount of respect for him, and I love the guy. I had great respect for the Pats, and even Belichick, until today. I now hope they go down in a very very painful way.

Re: Classless Coach Belichick
They've run it up on everyone so far, it will come back to haunt them eventually.
|
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Gibbs and Belichick shook hands following the game, and publicly he took the high road. But, I'm sure he had another stance alltogether behind closed doors to his players
Apparently Godfrey had some things to say about Belichick following the game though |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Im on both sides of the fence with this...
One side definitely thinks people shouldn't complain about an opponent running up the score... If you don't like it than stop them. It was still frustrating to watch though. I am so disappointed right now. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
I believe in karma. This will eventually come around on them. Sooner or later he'll leave Brady in there to run up the score and someone's going to get through that line and end The Golden Boy's career.
And the thing is, Belichick NEVER looks happy. Ever. I don't think he even really knows how to enjoy a win. I believe Joe probably sleeps a lot better at night than Ol' Sweats does. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
While the Redskins had some high scoring games in Gibbs' first tenure, he never ran the score up like this. If we had 30+ point lead heading into the 4th quarter, the back ups were put in or we just ran the ball to eat the clock away.

Exactly. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Belichick did exactly what he should have done. When a team self-destucts on the field of battle the opposition has absolutely no obligation to slow down. If the Skins had an opportunity to do this it would have been the right thing to do as well, but I think we all know that's not how it would play out. Hence the difference between teams with a killer instinct and teams without one. Belichick is a guy I respected but never liked. After today I respect him a little more.
|
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
I find it hard to have any respect for a coach who runs up a score. There's no need to show up your opponent. It's a total lack of class and humility, and those that support such a thing are also lacking in class and humility.

Not sure how you can respect him. Somebody else said it well, I thought: great coach, not such a great person. I happen to think you ought to strive to be both. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Belichick is all about winning, and in a sport where everyone gets paid millions and tens of millions to play the best sport in the world, he is the paradigm. Taking shots at his personal life (of which I've never really heard about) is cheap.
If you're asking who I would rather have a beer with (Gibbs or Belichick), it's Gibbs. If you're asking who should be respected more in the national football league, it's Belichick. |

If you're asking who should be respected more in the national football league, it's Belichick.
Who should be more respected this year, or in general? As far as I know, only one of those coaches is in the Hall of Fame. And it's not the one who was caught videotaping other teams' playcalling. Nor is it the one who's been suspected of jamming opposing teams' headsets, or who icily shuts out former coaching assistants who go on to take head coaching jobs with division rivals. As many others have said, we have a thing called sportsmanship in the NFL. It is the reason that we all think spitting in another man's face is reprehensible, even if that means giving you an edge to win a game. It is the reason that what Albert Haynesworth did to Andre Gurode, stomping his head in a fit of aggression, is wrong. It is the reason that guys like Pac-Man Jones, Michael Vick, and Tank Johnson have served major suspensions for their off-field embarrassments despite being superb athletes who could help their team win. It has nothing to do with a coach's personal life. It has everything to do with how a coach defines the leadership that personifies his team. I found it gaudy and embarrassing when "The Ol' Ball Coach" ran up the score on the Niners that one year, and it's no less gaudy now. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
belicheck is a a$$hole with no class, and neither does his team. but my question is...is jason cambell the future of this team? i say no. we have have the best recieving core in football...santana moss, randel el. and none of them have scored a touchdown. portis and betts in the backfield. our defence speaks for itself. a good special teams. a hall of fame coach with 3 super bowl titles. i say it's time to sit cambell down. and send al saunders and his 700 page playbook back to kansas city!!! but that is just my opinion.
|
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
youre crazy if you think campbell should be benched. this is only his 14th start in the nfl, and he played the best team in the nfl today. i'd like to see anyone do anything positive behind that make shift o line.

Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Sit Jason Campbell down, and start... who?
You think Brunell would have survived being attacked by Mike Vrabel all day long? I can pretty much guarantee you it would have been 7+ sacks rather than 3. |

Not to get off-topic here, but the best wide receiving corps in the NFL was wearing blue in Foxboro on Sunday.
The thing that really galls me about the Pats running up the score on teams (not just today, but all season) is that they seem to be doing it b/c they are mad that people caught them cheating. As if it is somehow not their fault that they were in fact doing the cheating and the people who were upset about it are the ones at fault. Is there some validity to the "it's pro football, take it like a man" line of reasoning? Yes, I think there is. At the same time, there is such a thing as class, and going for it on 4th down in the second half of a blow out win does not exhibit any of it. |

I was seething when I saw BB do this, but after reading the posts and reflecting on it, I'm not sure what to think. If he wanted to risk Brady and his starting WRs out there, he had a right to. In college football, you have to run up the score for the BCS. For the Pats, they've already won their division, but that doesn't mean they cant screw with the Colts' brains before next week's mega-matchup. We blew this game on the first drive when we punted, before all of the turnovers started. I don't blame our defense for the loss, the Pats did the same thing to every team this year. So I say BB did what he had to do, to get negative press and some more motivation before next week's game. We need to beat the J-E-T-S next week and hopefully classy Dungy will put him in his place. Gibbs will always be classier than Belichek, but that doesn't mean BB isn't a great coach, or a very sick puppy to say the least. Go skins. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
You don't sit Campbell after 14 career starts.
That's just DUMB. Man, the overall IQ around here really drops after a loss, doesn't it? People seem particularly retarded tonight. |

I would love to see one of his key players go down with an injury when they're in the middle of running up a score. Maybe then we would see Belichick without that smug F'ing look on his face in the post game presser. What did you want us to do, kick a FG? What an a-hole. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
"they" run whatever Ol' Sweats says they run. So it's more a question of whether HE is trying to send a message. And based on the eternally constipated look that guy always has, I think it honestly, truly might be that he's trying to send a message to anybody watching.
Of course it is his right to do what he's doing. I think it's his right to tell the American people, "up yours, I don't care what you think of me, because I'm a winner". He just better hope he never hits a losing streak with that kind of attitude. The Greeks had a word for it. They called it hubris. |

Re: Classless Coach Belichick
cambell is not the only qb we have. our offence has not been the same since saunders was hired as the offencive cordinator and jason cambell started. hell if were gonna keep saunders then start collins. at least he knows his system better.

Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Matty-
Thanks for all your hard work on the blog. Yeah the way the Pats feed on negative motivation is just sick, just like playing Brady then. Brady is kind of scary though, I'd like to see JC have some more killer instinct (Rypien and even Joe Theisman had that). That fake spike touchdown to Randy Moss was a really nice play, something Gibbs wouldn't really ever try. What happened to the the reverses and trick plays we ran in the 80s and 90s with so much success? Why couldn't we put together some plays like we did on that first drive (short passes, screens, Cooley crossing routes). We got flat outplayed today, but Belichek deserves credit for deflecting attention from his team, AGAIN, going into that matchup next week. Let's stay positive, and focus on the Jets, who we can stomp (along with BB disciple Man-Genie). JON
I would love to see one of his key players go down with an injury when they're in the middle of running up a score. Re: Classless Coach Belichick
In regards to the original question: I am of two minds about it. If the Skins players wanted the Pats to stop scoring they should have done something about it. Plus some crazy comebacks are possible in football. I happen to have been at the 1993 Bills- Oilers game where they came back from more than 30 down.
However Billichick should know that this pisses off players and may come back to haunt him. Also when players get real frustrated they tend to so dumb things. What if one of the Skins D took a cheap shot at Brady or one of their other "skill" players. Personally I wouldn't condone that sort of thing but I could see it happening. Plus I am going to pray for a day in the future where we run it up every bit as hard on them. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Get over it. People on both sides get a pay check, and the Redskins didn't earn theirs today. It's not Bellichek's job to keep the Pats from scoring, it's ours. If you're embarrassed, you should be -- but suck it up. These guys can go home and cry themselves to sleep on their beds of money if they like, but don't tell another team to not run up the score. Hell, when they're running for 8 yards a pop right up the gut, we deserve it.

Re: Classless Coach Belichick
I don't like Belichick by any stretch of the imagination. From all accounts he is a real douchebag. The only thing that bothers me is skins fans whining that they scored too many points on us. Wonder how many people would be complaining if we did this to the Cowboys.
Here's a great quote by Belichick that Gibbs should start to follow:
"I've been coaching too long," Belichick said. "I remember being on that side. When I was coaching defense it was my job to keep the score down, not theirs. When you're playing defense it's your job to stop them. It's not (the offense's) job to not score. It's like I tell the offense, what the (bleep) do you think I send you guys out there for? To punt? We have a punt team for that. That's not your job. Your job is to go out there and score points. If you come off the field and you haven't scored points you haven't done your job."
|
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
Recall our '91 championship team - Gibbs took a knee at the Lions' 2 yard line when we were pounding Detroit 45-0 in the opener. I just hope that Gibbs and/or Jason Campbell have the opportunity to run it up on Belicheat someday, and they remember how NE showed no class in this game.
Wonder how many people would be complaining if we did this to the Cowboys.
At least Cowboys and Redskins fans respect each other. I get the feeling that is not true of the Patriots and pretty much any other team in the league. Like I said, karma's a bitch. I, like many Redskins fans (and really, fans of pretty much every other team in the league this season) won't soon forget this, and when the day comes that the hubris party happens in Foxborough, I will be loving every minute of it. I have to confess that I've been fairly bored of the Patriots lovefest over the years and rarely pay any attention to their games, even when they've been the Super Bowl. I'm going to be watching them every week from now on, just waiting for some linebacker blitz to crush Tom Brady. On a side note, the more I think about it, the more I wish Jason had taken a play out of football movie comedy land and "thrown the ball away", squarely at Belichick's nuts. |

We all know Gibbs is classier. He's too classy sometimes. They are both HOF coaches despite BB's cheating moves. The tuck rule (non-call) changed history forever. But he was going for the jugular like he has all year. They have not won by less than 17 points all year. They are on pace to break the scoring average (all time) for one year. They also were sending a message to the Colts. I think Bill should have run the ball more, taken Brady out sooner, and definitely kicked the FG, but our defense couldn't stop them. Gibbs needs to be more aggressive with his playcalling and a little less nice sometimes. BB was not classy, but he had the right to spank us today. We need to take the lesson from this game, we CAN do that to the JETS next week. Let's see how our team responds. |
Re: Classless Coach Belichick
I kind of had the opposite reaction most skins fans do about things....right after the game I had no problems with what Bellicheck did, and the points they scored. If we dont want them in the endzone, we keep them out of the endzone.
Now that I'm a few hours removed from it, I still belive for the most part that too be true, but I'm kinda of starting to agree with the people who think they ran it up...and it is kind of bush league. I dont want to complain about them running it up on us, because I really dont care, we played bad enough for it to be 52-7, thats how it should come, but there really does seem to be the idea that they wanted to make an example out of us, which is kind of stupid. I mean they had us completley and utterly humilated to begin with, was it really nessacary? Probaboly not. Again, if we are that bent about it, we should have kept them out of the endzone, its more the going for it on 4th and 2 that bothers me just a bit. Everything else is fine, because like Dasels Bellicheck quote says, the offense is out there to score... but the 4th down call is just kind of like "enough already"....but I really do hope Indianapolis kicks their asses next week. |

If you had put down the crack pipe for a moment you would have read where I had hoped for Gibbs to do something similar to what you just stated. Maybe not "smack someone in the mouth," as that would be as infantile as your reply, but at least let Belichick know that he had taken exception to what had just happened (you know skinsfan69, run up the score?). If that's too complicated for you to grasp in my original post, then please go back to your pipe. As you've stated the obvious that even my 10-yr. old could have said more intelligently: "This is the NFL, not pee wee league," the NFL is a PROFESSIONAL league in case you didn't get the memo. Professionals don't pout and get all pissy because they've been accused of cheating in the NFL or cheating with another guy's wife. Professionals don't run up the score either. As I said in the original post (again, probably too much for you to comprehend), the Pats were much better than us Sunday, plain and simple. Ain't no cryin' going on here because of that or anything else. You're the loser my friend for not being able to understand simple language. |
