Re: Redskins LB, Mel Kaufman passes away at age 50
Wow thats terrible. He was one of my favorite players on defense along w/ Monte Coleman and Dexter Manley.
It doesn't state what he died of. 50 yrs old is way too young to die. May he rest in peace |

Re: Redskins LB, Mel Kaufman passes away at age 50
Very sad. I remember him as a "Donnie Warren" type player. Not flashy or obnoxious, just had a workman type attitude and a good guy in general. Ahh those were the days when Kaufman was playing. I miss those days and now I'll miss Mel Kaufman.

Re: Redskins LB, Mel Kaufman passes away at age 50
Mel was a solid guy on and off the field. He played hard on every down for a defense that did not get the recognition that it deserved for being one of the best in their time. It was guys like him that made the Skins tough in the hey-day of the 80's.
Sorry to see him go... Another piece of my childhood has just died as well. RIP Mr. Kaufman. Prayers go out to his family and friends. |

Re: Redskins LB, Mel Kaufman passes away at age 50
Update: Kaufman died of hemmorhagic pancreatitis. Not exactly sure what that means but I believe his pancreas got inflamed and bled so much (not sure how) that it blocked the flow of something, something vital

Re: Redskins LB, Mel Kaufman passes away at age 50
