S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches

:coach: Gibbs ranked number 3 behind Bill Belichick and Chuck Noll. Is this were you would rate Gibbs or any of the other coaches? Discuss...

I would actually put Gibbs one higher than Belichick. It's only because of "what have you done for me lately?" that Belichick is above Gibbs. Sure, it's genius that Belichick has kept the same team together, BUT they made the point themselves in the article, Gibbs won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different quarterbacks.

Guaranteed if both teams (Redskins Super Bowl teams and the Patriots Super Bowl teams) switched years and it was the Redskins who were the most recent dynasty, Gibbs would be ranked a notch above.

In addition to that it seems like Walsh is pretty low for what he's accomplished.

I may be a little biased but I would definitely put Gibbs at No.1 if only because of the QBs he won with. The other guys all had franchise QBs like Bradshaw, Aikman, Montana, Brady etc etc.

1. Walsh
2. Noll
3. Gibbs
4. Belichick
5. Lombardi
6. Parcells
7. Johnson

Once Gibbs wins another SB he'll be at the top of the list, for a long long time. :biggthump

In Belichick's defense, not that he needs it, he is 10-2 in the playoffs and has won 3 super bowls wins. He is a damn good coach that's for sure!

I think that you have to give it Belichek over gibbs due to the parity. I think it is harder to win superbowls in the current environment. Now if he hadn't ever retired, it wouldn't be close.

I'm torn on the Belichick vs Gibbs thing. Gibbs won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different quarterbacks and 3 different running backs, but Belichick did it at a time when it wasn't supposed to be done. You're not supposed to be able to have dynasties at this time and the Patriots certainly became one. Hard to call.

Honestly, this is how I feel about modern day dynasties. Say you win two Super Bowls while maintaining your core players, for the third it would be easy for those players to want to stay.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches

I follow what you're saying, but I doubt that Tom Brady or Bill Belichick would ever claim that winning a Super Bowl was easy.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches

Not easy, but riddle me this...

Do you think that Belichick would have won a Super Bowl with 3 different starting QBs? Because I DO think that Gibbs would have won 3 EASILY if he maintained basically the same team for years in a row. He probably would have won 4 in a row.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches

I don't know if Belichick could have or not. Cause I think that Bledsoe could have beaten the Rams the first time around.

As for Gibbs, no shot at him, but wasn't the team with Rypien and Byner pretty much intact the next season? I don't remember cause I'm too damn young.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches

Belichick was canned from his first head coaching job in Cleveland. What he's done with the Pats is flat out amazing, but that doesn't mean I'm going to forget about the Cleveland experiment gone awry. Gibbs is above him in my mind.
