Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches
I would actually put Gibbs one higher than Belichick. It's only because of "what have you done for me lately?" that Belichick is above Gibbs. Sure, it's genius that Belichick has kept the same team together, BUT they made the point themselves in the article, Gibbs won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different quarterbacks.
Guaranteed if both teams (Redskins Super Bowl teams and the Patriots Super Bowl teams) switched years and it was the Redskins who were the most recent dynasty, Gibbs would be ranked a notch above.

In addition to that it seems like Walsh is pretty low for what he's accomplished.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches
I may be a little biased but I would definitely put Gibbs at No.1 if only because of the QBs he won with. The other guys all had franchise QBs like Bradshaw, Aikman, Montana, Brady etc etc.

1. Walsh
2. Noll 3. Gibbs 4. Belichick 5. Lombardi 6. Parcells 7. Johnson Once Gibbs wins another SB he'll be at the top of the list, for a long long time. ![]()

No way Lombardi is behind Johnson.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches
In Belichick's defense, not that he needs it, he is 10-2 in the playoffs and has won 3 super bowls wins. He is a damn good coach that's for sure!

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches
I think that you have to give it Belichek over gibbs due to the parity. I think it is harder to win superbowls in the current environment. Now if he hadn't ever retired, it wouldn't be close.

Re: S.I. Top 10 Superbowl Coaches
I'm torn on the Belichick vs Gibbs thing. Gibbs won 3 Super Bowls with 3 different quarterbacks and 3 different running backs, but Belichick did it at a time when it wasn't supposed to be done. You're not supposed to be able to have dynasties at this time and the Patriots certainly became one. Hard to call.

While the salary cap has given the NFL a complete makeover from the "legacy teams" of the 80's, it still hasn't really demolished the concept of dynasties today. Instead of the 49ers, Redskins, Bills, and Cowboys of the 80's and early 90's, there are just different teams doing it. In short, the rules are different, but the results are the same. |
