I look at it like hes less likely to get hurt by playing
against 3rd and 4th stringers. Saying theres not much value playing against 3rd and 4th stringers is like saying theres not much value to traning camp or practice. To a vet its probably not all that important, but treating a preseason game like practice and giving your rookies as much time as possible just seems like a good idea to me.
And if he, or anyone else, gets hurt well at least he has 4+ weeks before he has to play in a real game.
