Eagles Acquire Jason Peters

Sources: Jason Peters of Buffalo Bills in trade deal with Philadelphia Eagles - ESPN

Multiple outlets reporting this. The cost, reportedly, the 28th overall pick, a 4th rounder, and a conditional 2010 pick.

High price tag. Surprised the Eagles went for the deal. I thought if they were going to do a trade it would be to get Boldin.

I am not so sold on Peters. I actually sorta dig this deal. I think they gave up more than he is really worth.

Great deal for the Iggles.. Shows what a smart front office does to fill their holes. So they replaced Thomas and Runyan with Andrews and Peters, nice upgrades on both ends of the O-line.

I wonder if they will try to do a 2nd and 3rd or 2nd and 2010 1st for Boldin. They could probably call Cleveland and do a 2nd and 5th for Edwards instead. That would really suck for us if they could upgrade all of their holes like that.

So a smart front office (Philadelphia) trades draft picks for players who are disgruntled and want out of their current situation and a stupid front office (Washington) trades draft picks for players to fill holes? I guess you could say that the Eagles were smart in acquiring an extra 1st last year by trading back with Carolina, but I think they gave up too much to get Peters and will now have to give him a massive contract. Doesn't look all that brilliant from where I sit. I would be pissed if the Skins made a move like that.

Now, on the "how does this impact the Redskins" side, it does increase greatly the chances that Buffalo goes OT at #11 and increases the likelihood that none of the top four guys falls to #13.

Well you articulated what I meant to say.. They were in position to do this because of their draft day trade last year to pick up the extra pick. Peters is a pro bowl tackle on the right side of 30. That's a good move for what they gave up. They also signed arguably one of the best tackles on the FA market to play the other side. They got younger, more athletic and stronger at 2 key OL positions. You could make the argument they overpaid but now they are still sitting on a 1st round pick and one less hole to fill.

Still, if the Redskins had given up draft picks for a disgruntled player (Peters) and signed another player who just came out of knee surgery, some people here would be going ape sh!t. I'm fine with the Eagles not getting Boldin though.

I agree. Philly put themselves in position to over pay cause they had the extra #1 from last years draft. I like this move and Philly's FO knows what they're doing.

I think the Eagles had to make this move so good for them. However, there are factors which mitigate against such a positive take on this. One is Stacy Andrews' injury history. Another is the $10 mil. that Peters is seeking - that's a big cap hit. Another is the uncertainty about Peters - will he be the beast version of 2007 or the creaky version of 2008 or somewhere in between?

Maybe. I would bet the farm Monroe and the 2 Smith's are gone by then, so basically Buffalo can take Oher or maybe Britton as a reach. Not sure either of those guys would be immediate starters for us. I mean if Jansen really works his ass off as he's said and then comes in determined there are very few guys who will beat him...keeping him healthy for a full season is a whole nuther question. I believe we need to acquire more OL talent before the season, however it's shaping out there will be limited impact talent available in the draft for us. Still, guys like Levi Jones are likely to be availabe by the end of the month. I'd take him over Peters and it'll cost us way less (nothing in draft picks).

...we're gonna be ok so long as the FO doesn't f the puppy and waste the draft on another QB project

Good for the eagles cause he allowed 13 sacks last year, the most among starting LTs

Re: Eagles Acquire Jason Peters

The Iggles traded the 28th pick, the one they acquired when they gave their first rounder to Carolina last year, and additional picks for Peters. Think about it. They could have kept their pick last year and used it on Jeff Otah. They would have been better off player-for-player as well as draft picks.

No, the Iggles don't have a great front office. It's just easy and acceptable to bash the Skins.

Great move by Philly. I can't believe people are really surprised that a player playing on a UDFA TE contract held out. He's getting nothing pay wise, yet making the pro bowl. He had a down year last year -- but he was also upset with his club. It was a good move by the Eagles, in my opinion. Luckily we don't have a DE that can get the QB anyways, so we neutralize their new awesome LT. Take that, philly!
