His cut was unexpected, that leads me to believe something happened behind closed doors. did he miss another meeting like last year? not study enough?

I thought he was cut because he sucked.

At this stage of our team build, I say keep running players through the system until we can find players who can do the job. Once you know a player can't do it, as in the case of Amerson, cut him and try the next guy. You may need to open a lot of oysters before you find a pearl.
Yup. My point exactly.

Who knows ...

Maybe Blackmon is a (very) late bloomer previously hindered by a series of injuries but is now all better and fits our system really really well;

Maybe Deshazor is that crazy UFA who fell between the cracks and just needed an opportunity;

Maybe Q. Dunbar - like D. Young (a LB his rookie year) - is a real diamond in the rough with the potential to be a stud CB in a year or two.

Test the depth and see what you got. This is as good a game as any to try it.

Im thinking ... sucked + "something" = unexpected cut.

I just dont know what that "something" is. he was cut after the d hall injury so we were a little thin there and cutting him at that point and bringing in will blackmon off the street seemed a lil extreme.

i feel like we are missing something here.

I seriously doubt it. His draft report makes out as a linebacker type safety who doesn't turn and run particularly well. Here is his draft profile: Kyshoen Jarrett Draft Profile – NFL.com

Quote:
Weaknesses: Tight-hipped rover who is more linebacker than safety. Clunky when transitioning from backpedal. Lacking recovery speed. Frenetic. Allows excitement for the game to overcome him at times. Can get lost in coverage when plays break down and scramble ensues. Blitzing machine with limited coverage responsibilities, often locking in on tight ends and as a very deep, single-high safety.

...

Bottom Line: Productive, yet limited, three-year starter with a nose for the ball and a willingness to play a physical brand of football. He can be a liability in coverage and will have to be covered up by scheme, but he's an absolute bulldog around the line of scrimmage and can play on special teams right away.

I'm thinking the "something" was ... "sucked + [sucked really bad, sucked last year, sucked again this year and we are now convinced he will continue to suck from now until doomsday - a blind dog with three broken legs provides better coverage than him.]"

I could be wrong. (Not about him sucking though, that's a rock-solid-take-it-to-Vegas-and-bet-your-house reason for him being cut).

^^ really good article with film breakdown of jarretts performance last week. really impressive. the article sd he played every snap? our nickel played every snap?

he seemed to always be in position on pass plays and came up to the LOS and made plays on run calls.

Oakland has the 2nd worst pass defense in the league, giving up 310 yds/game. (BTW: The Skins give up 210/game).

The blind dog with three broken legs I referenced earlier would be a star in the defensive backfield.

Yeah....thats my take. I guess i didnt drive it home by just mentioning that he sucked one time. He deserves more. Good job. Lol

Re: Falcons Pregame

Did you realize our defense has allowed teams to convert third downs only 15 times in 48 attempts? Tied for second best in the league.

I know it is still early, but, if someone had suggested to me the above stat would be true after last year, I would have laughed my ass off.

If we had someone else that could play the slot I would want to give Jarrett a shot on the outside too. He's handled the slot well and his overall play and coverage have been solid.

But for the Falcons game Jay said that Breeland and Blackmon will start on the outside and Jarrett will stay at the slot.

Draft profiles are opinions, they shouldn't be taken as gospel; but more of reference compared against other draft profiles and games (if you're a draftnik).
Some are spot on, some are way off base.

But once a prospect makes it to the nfl and start playing their gametape is their identity.

Does what you witnessed with your own eyes match with the nfl.com draft profile?

Re: Falcons Pregame

Anybody else hear the story during the news break on ESPN 980 where Pro Football Focus rated our OLine the 2nd worst so far this year?

Didn't they rate the OLine last year in the top 10?

I can't seem to find it in print.

Re: Falcons Pregame

You know people are terrified of getting blown out when they are lamenting over the loss of Amerson. Dude was absolutely terrible at CB for us last season and what he did play this season.
