Ultimately, this move will be graded on what happens on the field.

My main problem with the people who are woulda, coulda, shouldaing, is that I don't remember hearing anybody, ANYBODY crowing about how LG was going to be a problem back in March when we let Dock go and decided to shift Wade.

The reason for that? Shifting Wade to LG seemed like a perfectly reasonable solution at the time, he's a great athlete. I didn't hear anybody warning us that LG would be a major problem; the only hesitation people expressed was regarding Wade's height and not getting leverage on short-yardage plays.

The Skins didn't just ignore LG. They had a reasonable plan, it was Wade. They even had a plan B which many of you (including La Canfora) seem to be forgetting: WILL WHITTICKER. He was mauling in camp before he tore his ACL. The coaches loved the kid. Are you going to fault the Skins for lack of foresight because the ace up their sleeve got hurt?

Seems like a bunch of hindsight is 20/20 crap to me.

It's a no win situation with some people. If they don't pick up Kendall, those same people would be bitching during the season that they should have made a move.

I know very little about this Kendall fella, but what I know is that he is pretty solid. Which is what we need. The only way I would opose this move is if we had a young guy who wasn't going to get reps because of this.

To be clear, I don't think anyone is bitching about the move to pick up Kendall, it HAD to be done. I think the reservations some of us have is what steps led to the decision that it had to be done. Kendall is solid, I don't doubt that, what is in doubt is the decisions leading up to this point. I hope Kendall has a great year, I think after a month or so he'll be up to speed, but Im never happy about burning up a draft pick for 1 or 2 years of service from an aging vet if it could have been prevented in the offseason.

I think thats the problem, the skins can never look back to learn a lesson or look ahead to head off any potential problems. The skins cant seem to see beyond today so they end up always seem to end up chasing their tails.

I think this move will work out ok but I dont see championship teams often needing to patch their O line 3 weeks into preseason.

I understand nobody is really bitching about the move, it's pretty obvious that the vast majority is in favor of the move. I understand the events leading up to this aren't the most desirable, but again there's nothing that can be done to correct the past.

The Skins have to play the hand that's on the table right now. I think most agree this was a move that had to be made, so rather than dwelling on why or how we got here I'm just happy that the move got done. We're much better off today because of it and that's all I really care about.

Some people will never be satisfied. Saying "It should never have come to this" is making the perfect the enemy of the good. Let's look at the deal for Kendall for what it is and acknowledge that the team made the best of a bad situation. They took a chance that Wade could transition and they missed. I don't think it was an unreasonable risk. Guard is an easier position than Tackle, others have successfully made the switch, etc. If Bugel thought it could be done, you have to rely on that judgement. At least they aren't trying to go forward with Wade in an attempt to prove a point. They have seen their error and attempted to correct it.

But Matty is right, in the end you either win games or you lose games and that is the judge and jury on all these moves. I think that if you are a supporter of the team or claim to be, you should at least wait and see some regular season games before you make a final judgement, but that's my view.

Yeah seriously, I mean what was the flipside of this, should the Skins have just stubbornly pushed forward and not made a move for fear of acknowledging that things weren't working out as is?

Part of learning from your mistakes involves correcting those mistakes... if you can. And lucky enough for them this was something that could be corrected before it got any worse.

We need Kendal. Todd Wade is not a gaurd, and never will be a guard. This was a solid and neccessary pick-up in my opinion.

Well stated. They are trying everything they can to put the best team on the field. Last year, they sat back and told themselves that everything would some how work out and they paid for it. This year they are leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to get the best 53 players ready to go. It would be wonderful if they were stacked with young talent at every position and no one ever got hurt and mommys and daddys never got divorced and it never rained on the weekend and shit tasted like eskimo pies but unfortunately we have to live in the real world.

Teams have guys go down all the time, championship teams have guys ready to step in (not studs but solid backups) the skins however always seems to need to scramble when someone gets hurt.

As corny as it sounds, yes, they should have been able to look into a crystal ball, or tarot cards, or whatever, and run scenarios about what would happen if certain players at various positions got hurt. It appears they never figured WW would get hurt and the team would be stuck short at the position. They have had since Jan to do this but again they are not prepared.

I guess my point is the Skins continue to give away draft picks for old players at positions they should have already drafetd and been developing players for.

You're unrealistic. There simply aren't enough quality players in the league, or enough room under the salary cap, for the team to have THREE LEGIT OPTIONS at LG.

They had Wade, a talented career-starter at T, who could make the switch. They had Whitticker, a huge body in the mold of Dockery, 340-350 pounds. And you want them to have a 3rd G option either with Wade's athleticism or Whitticker's size?

That's unrealistic. I think Gibbs and Bugel looked at it from all angles, but the salary cap doesn't allow you to stack 3 great players up at every position. In the end, they're the victims of some rough luck with Whitticker's injury.
