I really wonder if the FO is even looking at him. I would absolutely be happy to see him on the team for a reasonable salary...

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

Anyone think this could be a problem under the current regime:

"Bushrod also is viewed as a good locker room guy. Brown didn’t have that reputation with the Saints and his conditioning sometimes had been an issue."

Saints' trade of Brown now done - NFC South Blog - ESPN

Just from what I've seen in how Shanahan appears to handle players (say the right thing, seemingly require the right things), I think it will become a non-issue. Under the past regime, a player like this would have been aquired at a higher cost and then allowed to "have his way". I get the feeling Shanny is very much a "put up or get the hell out" kind of guy.

Again, to me, it is the culture change that seems the most obvious. Yes, I know Shanny has his limitations. Yes, I know he has an ego the size of Alaska. Yes, he D's have not been anything to write home about and he is making a fundamental change in the way the Skins play defense. But, love or hate the switch to a hybrid 3-4, it just seems that there is a plan in place. (Let's sign 3 or 4 guys to play NT in case AH becomes a problem, lets see if we can get some quality talent at without crippling our cap or our ability to start stocking through the draft).

All this while Allen is rebuilding ties with the players who remember what winning is all about.

To me, this move is just the latest in a plan. Finally, there is method rather than just madness.

We may not win 10 games this year (although we might if T. Williams pans out and the interior lineman are able to play with consistency - i.e. same guys week in and week out), but, for the first time in three or four years, I am feeling good about our O-line.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

Of course, I love the trade and cant't believe we got him at such a bargain price. However, i'm somewhat concerned that 2010 will be his only season with the team. He views himself as a LT (probably rightly so) and we're bringing him here to play RT. Early reports were that no contract would be worked out soon. I'm guessing Brown's going to make the pro-bowl at RT this year and enter free agency so he can collect LT money. Even if we offered him LT money to play RT, I honestly don't know if he would take it.

The "best case" scenario for us would be for be for Williams to struggle early on and get moved to RT. Then, with Brown at LT, we could negotiate an extension where he'd be an LT making LT money.

I am more concerned about Jammal being healthy thatn the contract.
Jammal Brwon has had a year off of football due to injury. He has had plenty of time to get in shape. If he is not in great shape at this point, I worry about his work ethic. His history of injury in the NFL is a concern. Is he recovered from his hip and hernia injuries? Did he work hard in rehab?

I don't know about this one? I like my draft picks. We'll see.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

I really liked the Selvish Capers pickup in the 7th, but I realize that a 7th rounder isn't a guaranteed producer, so we get Brown for this year at least, and it
a - solidifies our line
b - gives a backup plan if TW doesn't step up as a left tackle
c - gives us time, maybe 1 but possibly 2-3 years to develop Capers and Heyer(although I expect he will be an early cut if he even makes it to training camp).

all at the cost of a 2-3 round drop in next year's draft. I really like this move.

So do I. BUT- I also like my QB upright and not paying too much. Really, if VC had made the aquisitions that Shanny did (Donovan and Brown), we probably would not have a 1st or 2nd in 2010. Remember when they traded for a pick in order to have the necessary pick sign a restrictive free agent (I think it was Chad Morton).

While I thought VC actually did okay in ID'ing talent - flame away, but it's my opinion and discussed ad nauseum in older threads - he almost always overvalued it. Thus, even the one decent skill he had was compromised.

Getting a pro-bowl quality Tackle (left or right) for a 3rd or 4th round pick is good solid pick-up. Remember, we were all thinking this would take a 2nd rounder to go through. Honestly, and IMO, if we can get a 3rd for AH at this point, it is just a huge win for us.

I'm quite the opposite. I'm not even remotely concerned about his health or work ethic. In the three years prior to last year, he started 15 games a year. And i don't think hernias or hip injuries typically have lingering effects. Brown said in an interview he has been fully recovered since before the playoffs began last year and if he hadn't been IRed, he'd have been good to go. I've also never read anything about him that would imply he has a questionable work ethic. From a character perspective, this guy seems like Chris Samuels 2.0.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown

Well, if Mcnabb has a 2-3 year window of playing at a high level, why not make moves that will make us better immediately and for the next few years.

Honestly, i dont know if we can wait to draft and develop our entire O line when our starting QB is 33-34 years old. in the NFL it seems you have to plan to win today or at the very least tommorrow.

This addition, if healthy, moves us one step closer to fielding a competitve team for the next 3 years that Mcnabb is at the helm.

unless we draft or pick up a legit apprentice for mcnabb, i think a plan to win to win the SB in the next 3 years is the way to go in light of the mcnabb addition.

i just hope mcnabb can run and execute kyle and shannys playbook and command a professional huddle, which i am taking as a given. if its not, it doesnt really matter who we have blocking or running the ball.

it seems apparent to me that we are not in a rebuild mode. with the addition of mcnabb, a competent qb, it gives us a chance to win if we can put into place the right peices before mcnabb starts his decline.

2nd & future 3rd/4th rounder for a qb
future 3rd/4th rounder for a tackle
swap of 5ths for a DT

the FO is trading building blocks for the future (5 years from now) for players who can help win now.

Brown/Shockey similarities: Both Pro Bowlers; both injured during teams' SB wins; both reunited w/coaches who drafted them in trades.#Saints 5 minutes ago via TweetDeck Retweeted by FO_DougFarrar

RT's don't get voted to the Pro Bowl.

This looks like a great move. I have reserved enthusiasm. There have been many offseason moves that looked great at first, but ended up being busts. I hate to be skeptical but history is not favorable for the Redskins. I like the way the offensive line is shaping up. I just want to see production on the field.

Do they volunteer? I recall being at the Pro Bowl in February and I'm pretty sure I saw RT playing in the game. If they don't get voted to the Pro Bowl, how do they determine who plays?
