This is his 1st year and D-Mac is not a great QB he can get the job done with a good back and pass protection for next season. I'm also tired of fans saying last years defense was som good and a they were in the top 10 defense. So what we were 4-12 and when our sorry offense did get the lead in the game our #10 defense could not get a stop when we needed it to win the game. The 3-4 can work when we get some younger and faster LB's and D-Line who are agile and can rush the passer. We also have to stop the run better or teams will not have to pass. This team has alot of work ahead this off season. So stop crying and man up or get off the band wagon and root for another team.
You do not rebuild by tossing away picks. EVER. You weaken the team and gain picks by trading still-effective vets and suck for 3 or so year. You target a "Top dog" player like Guy Lafleur or Alex Ovechkin and primarily use the draft to get your future stars. After you build a core, then you bring in some inexpensive leaders.

On the field, he has made some big plays that few, if any QBs, on our roster the past couple of years (this year included) could have made. And several of his interceptions have not been his fault...but he doesn't have Joey Galloway to blame anymore.
Wait a minute. What good is the leadership to lead a team out of a disastrous season if the result of the leadership is that the next season is just as disastrous?

I'm not saying 1) Leadership isn't important, and I'm not saying 2) McNabb doesn't bring leadership (I'm also not asserting either of those things). I'm saying that we need to look at the value of that leadership in context: if the proposed intangible hasn't produced anything tangible, then we need to question how valuable it really is.

It's also possible that McNabb's not responsible for the lack of improvement, but the Shanahan's are. I don't see any way we can draw a line where one's responsibility ends, and the other begins. We do need to be mindful of the results before we start talking about how happy we are to finally have some real leadership in the quarterback position. The big plays he's brought have made a difference. The leadership, apparently, has not.

Ok fellas lets look at it this way, how many times have you seen our QB have enough time to throw the ball to anyone. I agree our line needs work, however I have seen to many plays by DM5 where he underthrows or leads to much. Case in point armstrong short throw, alot of you say he was under pressure but if he throws the ball two seconds before there is any pressure than he hits him stride for a TD. His accuracy and timing sucks a--. If I see his ass smile one more time after "missing one", an easy one I am going through the roof.

Just as long as we chuck it deep everything is fine with you?
Silly things like i don't know converting 3rd downs or RZ production are less important then total passing yards?
Are you Rex Grossman?

BTW-I'm not disgusted w/ McNabb's play but how can you honestly claim this years passing offense is better then last years?

I don't think we'd be much better or much worse with Campbell and/or Grossman as a starter this season. And we'd still have two really important draft picks. I mean, McNabb has 15 picks to only 12 TDs, and a rating of 75.2 (3 points lower than JC's this season). Campbell's stats as a starter here were never that poor, and he learned a new system nearly every season. Just saying.
What I'll say about this, really the only thing I can say without this turning into a JC vs. McNabb thread, is that for Campbell to actually have played mediocre enough to be replicating the numbers McNabb is currently putting up...would have fit in only with the side of the argument that thought "boy, we've certainly seen the best Campbell can give us."

Because, objectively, we were already getting this level of performance out of him. The argument for keeping him would have been that a guy 3 years from the peak of his career might have been capable of giving us more than he has. Or more than we're getting now. But we've never been a team to commit to youth that doesn't pay immediate dividends. Just be happy that Orakpo, Trent, and Landry all had big rookie years. Otherwise, they too would have been marginalized as "useless, but necessary" players.

Secondly, JC was on his way out wether DM came here or not. And if people will ask if we are better off without JC now that DM is the Redskin QB, the answer is YES. Give DM last years Defense or this years playing the 4-3 and Portis And DM more than puts up enough points to win most of the games we lost.

I've said this before, bring JC back here and he would be just like last year or worse.

The team as a whole is playing worse than last year. Sad but true.
Thing is, you can isolate the offenses from the rest of the team, and ours is worse this year than it was last year. Not much worse. Just a little bit, and the difference is entirely in the passing game.

The defense has been a problem. It was average last year, it was average this year until the bye week. It's been bad since. It was never improved, but that would have been a lofty expectation, given that we didn't invest anything in it between 2009 and 2010.

We made all of our investments (McNabb, Trent Williams, Jammal Brown, Artis Hicks, Larry Johnson, Joey Galloway, Roydell Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger) on the offensive side of the ball. That's the side we were planning on making a significant improvement. It didn't, so you should probably figure out what went wrong. Why hasn't McNabb played like he did in Philly? Why hasn't Artis Hicks been the starting lineman we thought? Who thought Joey Galloway could still play? etc.

The defense is its own animal. It's badly underachieved the last four games, particularly against the run. But we didn't invest anything there so things were more prone to go wrong on that side of the ball (additions: Buchanon, Carriker, Kemoeatu). The troubling thing about the season is on the offensive side, where we've been no better, and would rank probably 30th in points if not for the contributions of one Brandon Banks.

We actually released Banks prior to the Rams (Texans?) game, if you'll remember. That's how much we were expecting to need his contributions.

Re: Is anyone else just absolutely disgusted with DM5's play?

Our line sucks bud period, not to mention that our WR corp is still suspect. Armstrong is showing some potential, but we need another piece or make that two in our WR puzzle to give DM a bit more help. I like Santana a lot, but he isn't what he used to be, so we need to think about his replacement.

I forgot our crappy running game. CP is toast, and I don't just mean for 2010. Torain is not rugid enough, and that leaves us with Williams and this other guy. Not too good. We leave the 2010 season with more roster problems than we entered into it with.

Re: Is anyone else just absolutely disgusted with DM5's play?

Looking back in hindsight, alot of the problem with the running game was the belief that Portis could be the sole weapon, and as a result, the skins never bothered with getting another competent back, in the event that something happened to CP. The closest we came was Ladell Betts in 2006, who was more than adequate in his role as starting RB. Despite that fact, no moves were made at RB and since 2007, Portis either went down with injury, or became innefective as the season wore on.

I figured that after 2008, when the wheels had clearly came of Portis even though he had a good season up until halfway, the team would draft his successor, but i understand it was Jim Zorn and he was basically helpless, but still, all the signs were there that Portis was going to go down. It's not CP's fault, he was just worn out and has never been the same player since about 2008.

They need to move on. Keep CP on the team if he wants a 3rd down role or something, but we need fresh, young legs. RB is not an old man's game, and this is something the redskins have had a hard time understanding.

Re: Is anyone else just absolutely disgusted with DM5's play?

Donovan's play continues to be uneven, inconsistent and challenged by coaches who need to see him perform at a high level, both in practice and in games.

Unfortunately for the Redskins, they may be expecting to get something from McNabb he's never been able to deliver "consistency". He has quickly been adorned the leader of this team, but I question his leadership here just as it was questioned by the team he departed. The Eagles didn't find his playing around with his "air guitar" gesture exiting the tunnel in Dallas last year to begin one of the most important games of their season a symbol of leadership. There's a time to play and a time to be serious.

One of the most important qualities considered in describing a leader is, one who can inspire confidence. Some players try to do it through talking, others choose to let their playing do the talking. Inconsistent play, not being what would be considered a vocal leader, then being benched at the most important time in a football game does not inspire confidence from your teammates regardless of what they may say. We need to see better play from the position for the confidence to be there.

This little archive has a way of summing-up McNabb's tenure thus far with the Redskins.

i dont see how you can say our passing attack is worse than last year. im not saying as long as we chuck it deep we are fine. but over the past 10 years we have had been trying to find a deep passing attack to stretch the field and stop teams from stacking the box.

we finally have that. im enjoying that small aspect of improvement i have seen from our team. me being happy about that small part doesnt mean i dont think we have alot of other areas to improve upon. its a silver lining type thought. not everything is broken with the new coaches, scheme and qb.

What does "rugid" mean?

You guys see that stat about McNabb being the first Skins QB since Joey T in 84 to throw a TD in 12 consecutive games? That was both impressive and sad at the same time

i believe by rugid he means able to stay healthy and on the feild which atv has not been able to do.

back to dmac i was looking up vicks stats and noticed that dmac is number 5 in the league in yards who knew? if we could just score a damn td when we get in the red zone. i wonder how many points we have left on the board this year. NFL Stats: by Player Category
