Re: Redskins "Name Change" Volume 10000000

I never understood why there was such an opposition to a name change. As long as the team stays in DC (or the DC area) I will be their fan no matter what they are called.

I do believe there should be a discussion, and Snyder should not be so dismissive but I have heard from reporters that is part of his personality at times.

I'll say this, if the team would be allowed to move back in to the city and get a brand new stadium and the city would be willing to give money if the team changed their name, I would want a name change. Other than that, I am not a Native American so I cannot say if it is offensive or not and I do not know the history of the term.

That Frog Picture made me spit out my coffee. Love that you called them the "Maryland Frogs too".

Those Warriors uniforms are badass. That 2002 look was my favorite Skins' alternate ever.

Re: Redskins "Name Change" Volume 10000000

I'd prefer the team move to Virginia and away from the morals toilet of D.C. before changing the team nickname. I'm a Redskins fan.

Snyder is being dismissive because a.) he owns the team, b.) this false issue has been pushed for decades

I don't want the team to get bribed or blackmailed by politicians with a new stadium in exchange for throwing 80 years of tradition away. I'm glad Snyder is taking a stand for something he believes in and I'm glad he values our team's history and tradition enough to fight for it. He's not willing to sell his beliefs for a shiny new stadium and Super Bowl venue. I appreciate that of our owner.

Wish I could take credit for drawing the Kermit set, but I guess some kid did it. Found it on Google when I searched "Washington Warriors uniform" to see if any concepts with that military vets idea were done.

I'd be thrilled if we adopted that look now, without having to change our name.

Re: Redskins "Name Change" Volume 10000000

Im not sure why people keep recommending the Warriors as an alternative name. If we are changing from Redskins, why would we change to a name that the people against Redskins say is derogatory to Indians? The Indians fighting against Redskins are going to go after the name Warriors for being derogatory to Indians if they can get the name Redskins to fall. They have already given their view of the name Warriors and they feel it should not be allowed.

If they cave in and go that route, I would like them to use colors more like burgundy and yellow than garnet and gold, the spearhead looks too much like FSU as is.

But taking the Green Bay protestors at their word, they are offended at NAs being called "warriors". So that name should be a non-starter in reference to Indians, if the name has to be changed.

Washington Sentinels, or go Washington Warriors with a modern US Army motif would make more sense. Camo or standard drabber colors? Represent a demographic that isn't "offended" by the name, and appreciates us cheering for them.

Now Warriors is derogatory?

We need to just move to London and be the Sillynannies because it's seriously moving in that direction.

Warriors is such a broad term.

If push came to shove I'd be willing to bet they would settle for that over Redskins.

They want all of the sports teams with anything pertaining to Indians to be changed. They are against Chiefs, Braves, Indians, Warriors, Seminoles, Blackhawks, Fighting Illini, etc. to be changed.

The NCAA already adopted that rule. Thats why Marquette changed from Warriors to Eagles and Stanford changed from Indians to Cardinals. The NCAA has a rule that if an Indian tribe ok's a name, then it can stay. Which is why Florida St. was allowed to keep Seminoles. Which prompted Suzan Harjo to say that the Seminole tribe in Florida that ok'd the name are a bunch of sell outs.

They look like us.

1968 Redskins

1968 Florida State

Check out their 1962 helmet...these protesters should be happy we're not using something like this!

They didn't copy our spear helmet until 1976.

Warriors is considered derogatory by some folks when used in conjunction with Native American regalia. It is seen as creating an unfortunate stereotype.

If we were the "Warriors" with a nuclear missile as an emblem, things would be different.
