Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I am of the mind that Cousins wants out of DC. Unless, they simply make him an offer he just cannot refuse.
Fact of the matter is, this head coach did not draft him. But one of the guys that did draft him is now a head coach in San Francisco and has made no secret that he would like a reunion with Cousins. It could work in favor of the 49ers in that they can sign Cousins away as a FA and still be in position to draft a QB of the future high in the first round of next years draft. |

Why would SF be looking to replace a QB that will be super expensive to sign, and will be all of 30 years old? If Cousins signs in SF there QB search is over and they wont be drafting one early in any draft for the next 3-4 years unless KC flops.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I think Cousins is just maximizing his value. Nothing more than that. I know everyone wants to read into things but at the end of the day he just wants what he would be due under the tags. The Skins started this mess, KC is just playing the game the team started.

Yep, and don't forget his agent is trying to get a max deal as well.

Stranger things have happened. I'm not liking our chances there because sources very plugged in like Schefter have made it pretty clear, but deadlines spur action and negotiations are fluid so who knows.

One last consideration, is a 6 year deal next year takes him to being 36. So it's going to cover his prime playing years. He simply wants to maximize that. |

Being a Skins fan is like having a shitty job. It's stressful, it's tiring, and it doesn't pay jack shit, but you can't quit because you've got bills to pay.

If no deal was in place by 4 I'd trade him to any team that offered a top 100 pick. Not saying any team will actually offer it, just saying if.

If this was Goldilocks this would be the bowl with a bit too much aggression.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
While I want the deal to happen...I think from a logic standpoint there is strong reasoning to not give Cousins 24-25 per, 55-80 guaranteed. There just is. The skins are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
I wonder if the offer leaks if it doesn't get done?

Im fine w Cousins playing on the tag this year, I wish we signed him to 16-20M last year but cest la vie. Unless Cousins plays to an MVP level or we make a deep playoff run, I dont see Cousins value increasing. I think this offseason, his value was at its highest and he failed to lock in a LTD. 50% chance injuries or decrease in production happen this year.

Strong reasoning to not pay a guy you already paid $19m last year and are on the hook for $24m this? Not sure I'm seeing it. |
