Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
I will also make the trip to Canton if Monk gets in. I'm thinking the idiots might put him in this year to shut everyone up for awhile.

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
Stallworth deserves to be there I believe...I am making the trip to canton when Monk gets enshrined...either that or next year when green gets in

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
Yea, i'm not exactly sure about Stallworths #'s so i probably shouldn't have included him in there. I guess my point is that if WR's are in w/ significantly lower #'s than monk should be in too.

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
Monk retired with more receptions than Swann and Stallworth COMBINED. The upside for them was winning 4 Super Bowls and making huge plays in those games. Monk will get in once asses like Peter King get off their high horses and stop speaking against him.

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
Receiving yards and rushing yards are comparable, and Monk retired top-5 in receiving yards in addition to #1 in receptions. Those two alone should have been plenty to get Monk in (not to mention his 3 rings). Had he spent his career in a pass-first West Coast Offense, there's no telling how much greater his stats would have been.

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
The HOF process seems to be like a school yard bully situation where the loudest spouters get their way and the silent majority just goes along with them...

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
i read an article somewhere that most HoFs for sports blow. i think they were bitching about joe dumars being in the hall. i sort of agree. too many people get in it seems.
i guess it's not so bad for the NFL but still... |

Someone fill me in, What did Martin ever accomplish? Getting to the Super Bowl? Winning a few divisions and a rushing title? Big Deal. Under that criteria if Alexander retired tomorrow he would be in. Hell, vote in Eddie George. Obviously, stats don't get you in. Compare Monk to Swann, Stallworth etc. Monk had great stats when he retired. Kiper is right. The voters are idiots and basically choose on a whim. |

However, you're right: the hall doesn't care much for stats ... it's a popularity contest.

Re: Mel Kiper on Monk
i read the same article, and some of the beef was dumars getting in because he is an extremely nice guy, even to the press. and maybe his career numbers don't add up to being hall worthy
