I disagree, Gibbs was completely overwhelmed and the game had moved passed his antiquated offensive system. The only good year was the 10-6 year when the team was fueled by the loss of Sean taylor, not to mention that I thought Patrick Ramsey might have been a good qb but Gibbs ruined him by completely pulling the rug out from under him enough to destroy what little confidence a young/rookie qb has. So, bringing Gibbs back was not only a mistake, it was an egregious mistake

Yeah right, that's why Patrick Ramsey is starting in someones roster right now? The 10-6 record was due to Gibbs being the glue that kept the team together.

What would have been wrong with Fassel?

Marty wasn't fired. Marty quit when Danny boy wouldn't relinquish control of the team over to Mary.

Why are Marty and Fassel not coaching an NFL team? The best Fassel could do is as a coach in the UFL.

Gibbs was so overwhelmed that his "antiquated" system finished 11th overall in 2005, the best under his 4 years including when Saunders was running the O.

Actually the team finished 9-7 the year ST died.

As far as Ramsey, he's bounced from team to team since leaving DC. He wasn't ruined by anyone, whether it was Spurrier or Gibbs, or Mangini or Shanahan for that matter. He's simply not a starting caliber QB.

The same antiquated offense the Steelers used to win their Super Bowl under Cowher a couple of years ago, and the one the Cardinals used to make their first Super Bowl ever earlier this year...

The Redskins were 10-6 in 2005 and Sean Taylor was very much alive. They were 9-7 in 2007 when Sean passed. Also, Ramsey was a rookie in 2002 so if his confidence was destroyed, it was destroyed by Steve Spurrier. Personally I've never bought this argument anyways. If your confidence can be "destroyed" by a system or coach you don't have what it takes to play QB in the NFL. The truth is that Ramsey just isn't good enough.

As to your statement that Gibbs was "completely overwhelmed" I completely disagree. He made two playoff appearances in four years when we had only had one in the previous 13 seasons. He also restored a physical toughness to the Redskins that had been lacking. We were a soft team all through the 90s and 00s (excepting Marty's brief visit) and that changed abruptly on both sides of the ball when Gibbs came back.

Only someone who has a deep seated dislike for Gibbs on some personal level could make the ridiculous claim that bringing him back was a mistake. In my experience it often boils down to a discomfiture with his religious worldview.

I think he was ruined when the ABC sideline broad mistook him for Chad Pennington. He was never, ever the same.

Damn I really trying to think....hmmm....

Hiring Marty and giving him full control

1st round draft picks: ST, LL, Samuels, LA (he was good for awhile), JC (2009!)

I'm not sure JG's would be one of these. While i think he did a great job w/ what he had, DS still did his stupid s*** while JG's was here. AA/BL/etc.

Cooke screwed that up not Snyder.

I would argue that the Cookes screwed it up but Danny Boy disrespectfully exploited the situation.

Not true. Snyder did fire Marty Schottenheimer.
