They could have done the same for Campbell, but elected to show him some respect and give him a high level tender. I may be wrong, but this is how I understand it. If this is the case, you can see why he is upset. Upset to the tune off at least a couple million dollars.
Actually they gave Campbell the second highest tender. Campbell could have gotten tendered as a first and third however he is now tendered as just a first round pick.

But the point is that it was a different strategy used than with Rogers. In one case, the team was willing to spend a little bit more money to show that, yes, we value your contribution to the team, now prove you deserve to play here beyond this year. In the other, it's essentially just leveraging the fact that they control Rogers' rights, making a trade more enticing to a team that only has to pay his salary for one year at $1+ million, and basically suggesting that he's gone after this year.

Saves them nearly two million in uncapped dollars, which is the positive part.

Curious if you think anyone will yield a 2nd rounder for Los? How about a 3rd rounder?...and would our FO let him go for that?

The problem is not that we wouldn't give him up at that price, but that he's old-ish (Rogers, 29 on 6/2, is actually a few days older than Asomugha, who was a 2003 first round pick), and the team that trades for him would not necessarily be the team who is looking to sign him to a long term deal.

So the price becomes an issue. What is the value of one-year of Rogers in draft pick compensation. If it's, say, a 5th rounder, I don't think the Redskins would take a 5th rounder for one year of Rogers. I think they would be happier with a year of him and then letting him walk.

They would obviously trade him for a second or third rounder, but it's going to be hard to find a team that wants to pay that price. This tender makes it easier though.

I think he'll be here in 2009, and he's going to get a lot of FA play next year as a free agent, labor deal pending.

Well no one would have given us a second for him, so giving him a high level tender was more than fair since they could have given him a low level tender and still would require a first to get him.

Are you talking about Campbell or Rogers? Because let's not forget that things are different this offseason. Very limited talent out there that is not RFA, so teams may be willing to pay up a little bit more than last season.

Well as I said, last offseason and this offseason are night and day due to the uncapped year restrictions, so things will be different as far as trades and what not.
