You have to believe that the Shanahan/Allen consortium recognizes that this team needs a QB change for next year, right?

OK, so they go and draft one - - but the question will still remain:
Is this guy going to be ready to start on Day One of the 2012 season?
So, they could well go into Free Agency to find a guy who has been around for a while to use as a "mentor" or a "stopgap" or at the very least as a credible back-up QB in the event that the draftee gets his bell rung.

Keep an ear to the ground to try and figure out which NFL free agent might be coming here next March as the guy who will be standing next to the Draft Day Hero that the Skins select.

Rather than Matt Leinart, I would prefer Kyle Orton in that role...

The Redskins did try to get Leinart after the lockout. If Mike Shanahan thinks that John Beck is in developmental mode, and he's the QB of the future, then he needs to have his head examined. Given the injuries on offense, I'm not taking anything away from Beck. I just doubt that he's the answer at QB. If Allen and Shanahan doesn't realize this, then the Redskins will be doomed to be disastrous in 2012. We need to draft Griffin III, L. Jones, or Matt Barkley with our first pick.

I don't see how he could think Beck is the qb of the future, unless he's enamored with inaccurate throws, intentional grounding, happy feet, throwing to the guy he picks pre-snap instead of progressing through his reads, not trusting his offensive line, using his mobility to run into defensive players, showing a general inability to make plays, and having his defense spend way too much time on the field. If that's the case, then Beck is his guy. Oh yeah and also being 0-7 as a starting qb in the NFL.

Well if he did you can add that to the list of horrible descisions he's made.Leinart is awful,I would take Grossman over leinart all day long.Houston was stupid for giving him a contract, they better pray Schaub doesnt get hurt.Leinart didnt even look good in preseason with the texans

Re: Smoot Lays The Smack Down (Redskins vs. 49ers) (Thread is Open)

if having much better of a chance to win "doesn't matter" .. ur glass is half empty.. the real bottom line is we are NOT 3-5 if we had stuck with Rex and let that confidence increase his and inspire better play from the entire offense .. but no.. we didn't because shanny knows best [/blah]… .. Rex beats Carolina and SF.. but nobody could have won a game wen ur line gives up 9 sacks and a game full of constant pressure, just not likely .. still I say 5-3 with Rex, not this point deprived offense Beck throws, or should I say doesn't throw around and were 3-5 ..

that is all

They didn't talk to Leinart about coming in to be a starter. Just to cone in and compete for a spot a la Kellen Clemens

Thats good to know, but knowing the way this regime has handled qb's they probably wanted him to be the starter.Being in Houston,I watched Leinart in all the preseason games and he looked terrible

smackdown - coach harbaugh for getting all pissy when the refs called the false start on that 4th and 3 in the redzone after three of his guys moved too quickly with one of the guys moving forward.

how the hell is he going to say with a straight face they were just trying to shift and werent intentionally trying to cause the skins to jump.

the refs rightfully flagged it, i understand makign a quick protest but dont continue to pee your pants.
