Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
I am okay with taking Bly(even though I don't want him) as long as they still get a #1, #2, & #3. The Redskins need at least 2 extra draft picks to go all the way down to 21. That's a huge drop...teams have given 1st day draft picks just to move up a spot or two within the top 10. I have a bad feeling that Denver is going to pull the whool over the skins eyes again...and they are going to use Bly to confuse the issue and pull it off.

And going by JLC's speculation: And, trust me, these teams have been talking about swapping draft picks for weeks, I hear on very good authority, and have already had the parameters of several potential deals in place. So, I still think there is a very good chance we see Bly come to DC, along with Denver's first-round pick, and second- and/or third-round pick, plus maybe a conditional late round pick, in exchange for the 6th overall pick. |

#6 pick for 1st 2nd 3rd Bly I can live with that, but I am still not thrilled about giving a 30 year old CB a huge signing bonus.

I'm fine with giving him that money as LONG as we have money for Cooley and Taylor towards the end of the year.

Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
That's just it...we don't know when they didn't have the money until those guys are gone already. Why not just try and get through another year with Springs and then see where things stand next year. I don't think it will happen...but suppose Rogers develops into a capable #1 CB? Then they never needed Bly...but needed a 2nd or 3rd CB instead. Every penny spent on one player is one less penny for another. I just think Bly is on the wrong side of 30 to be getting a big bonus.

Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
So then the question becomes is it more valuable to us to cut trade Springs or wait until June and cut him then

As for Springs I find it funny that people are reluctant to part with him. I think Springs and Bly are in the same class of corner at this point in their careers but the big difference right now is Springs' inability to stay healthy.

Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
I agree w/ a couple things but one crucial thing is being left off. SS won't take a paycut so his CAP # would be huge if we kept him. He won't restructure. Bly's deal might be a little more cap friendly, well at least for right now.
To get a quality, top cb in Bly and still have a 21st pick and a 2nd/3rd + a potential SS trade for a pick or two might be doable. FWIW, i'm hoping SS & the skins can work something out. SS, Smoot, Rogers...I could live w/ that secondary. |

Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
it really depends on the deal. if the broncos give 1,2,3 + bly for the #6, and you can trade springs on top of that for another 2 or 3, then that still gives you a chance to trade up for okoye, or take carriker, as well as taking another DE (because of the great depth) or OG in the 2nd and an OG/TE/etc in the 3rd.
if the deal is only bly, pick 21, and a 3rd rounder, then no, it doesn't make sense, cause it's not a great offer. |

Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
The again, if we could hold on to Springs and draft a stud lineman, that could do wonders for our pass rush, and our secondary.
I tend to agree that we need to trade down, but I don't want to go crazy about getting Bly. He's really not that good, and If I can hold on to Springs, albeit an unhappy one, I think we could be in good shape. But I guess Springs would stay healthy for a whole 5 games, so theres always that to consider.

Re: Bram Weinstein: stay put at No. 6
Ultimately I don't think it's about Bly. It's about getting more draft picks

Does anyone know who Denver is trying to trade up to get at the 6th spot in the draft?

It definitely looks like they're doing what we did last year & putting it all in for a super bowl. It may come down to draft day & who's available at #6 & how bad they want him. I hope we make em sweat till they offer up Bly & 5 picks! (even though I want to see Springs stay) |
