Dallas is taking this division, there's no other way around it. If the Giants win, it only puts them further ahead in the wild card race, which is Washington's only hope.
I'm with you on this one. As painful as it is, the Cowboys winning really helps us the most.

Tightening up the division isn't really that helpful - barring some massive collapse, Dallas is taking the division hands down. Putting the Giants down another NFC East matchup will only help us in the wildcard race.

I disagree that this is a runaway for Dallas. They still have the Giants, Lions, Panthers, and Skins on the road; Redskins, Jets, Packers, and Eagles at home. Not a runaway schedule if you ask me. Maybe the only easy game in there is the Jets, but they'll get better with their new QB too.

I think the goal is to always win the division, and to say that crown belongs to the Cowboys after 8 games is just plain ridiculuous. I will root for the Giants, and for the Skins to take care of business down the road and the division can still be won.

By the way, we still have to beat the Eagles this week.

What we want to happen, and what is likely to happen are two different thing. I'm sure everyone here would be extremely happy if Washington went 7-1 in the last eight games and the Cowboys and Giants went 4-4, but that's not going to happen. Washington has a tougher second half of the season than Dallas, and the Giants are playing ridiculous defense.

Yeah, the goal is to win the division, but at a certain point let's be realistic.

In order for us to win the division two things have to happen: Dallas has to pretty much fall apart for the second half of the season, and the Skins have to kick it in to high gear.

Are both those things happening simultaneously impossible? No, of course not. It is, however, highly improbable, given what we know about the first half of the season, that both of those events will occur simultaneously.

I find it impossible to root for anyone in these intradivisional games. Mostly I just hope that the teams beat each other up pretty good. Giants, Cowboys, you could make arguments either way, but I'd probably say the Giants at this point. The teams I'll really be rooting against are Detroit and Tampa Bay. If worse comes to worse hopefully the East can send three teams like last year.

yeah, I gotta say we're rooting for Dallas to take this division. Plus, if it comes down to a tiebreaker, common opponents isnt far dwon in the picking order. Ideally right now we just want the Cowboys to beat all NFC competition (besides us) and hope we can close the gap.

Man, I can't root for Dallas under any circumstances unless a win will clearly secure a playoff spot for us. Since that isn't the case here, I hope they lose. Oh, and that everyone on both teams is hit with an injury significant enough such that when we face them again, they're at least on par with the heavy losses we've sustained on that front (if not worse).

Re: Cowboys or Giants: Who do you want to win?

I never root for Dallas but I think in this case it would be better for the skins if they won. Since the skins play Dallas next week it will be much better to play them coming off a win and a little full of themselves. The most important thing the skins need to do is win games...win 10 or 11 games and everything will take care of itself. So if winning is the goal then playing Dallas after a week of patting themself on the back is better then playing them after a tough loss.

The Giants without a doubt that way if we win we are only one game out of first place.

But we'll be behind two different teams, instead of being tied with one of them, which is what we'll be if the Giants lose and we beat the Eagles.

Exactly - I guess this seems kind of of obvious to me.

There's nothing shameful about playing for a wild card. Take an honest look around at our team, our performance in the first half of the season and the competition in the NFC, particularly the NFC East. Playing for a wild card is the most likely scenario. It's not pessimism, simply and honest view on where we stand.

That being said, I'd be more than thrilled if we didn't lose a single game the rest of the season and everyone else in the NFC East had a complete meltdown. It'd make my season.

I just don't think that's real likely.
