Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Yeah, no doubt about it. I like seeing the big hit that riles up the team every once in a while, but if we saw more forced fumbles resulting from a guy wrapping the ballcarrier up and sticking his hand in there and jarring the ball loose I definitely won't miss the big hit.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
I thought the Robinson/Jackson hit looked clean to me. It was violent and nasty but it was clean. They need to stop this crap with controling the violence of the game. It's football. I don't know what else Robinson was supposed to do. He hit a guy at the yard marker and knocked the ball out. If he goes for the wrap-up Jackson catches the ball and maybe gets a first. I don't see how the NFL has the gall to have a problem with the hit. They're basically saying don't play the game as hard. That's stupidity.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
I have a question and don't really want to start a thread on this...
Does anyone remember that last hit that Landry put on that WR on the sideline...? I know it was late in the game and was a fairly long pass by manning. Well anyways, the WR catches the ball (don't remember who...i'll have to rewind the game) But as he catches the ball,he gets blasted by Landry out of bounds and as he falls to the ground....the ball just shoots out as he lands on the ground and away towards the bench/crowd. Anyways, they got credit for the catch as the Colts run the hurry up and I was wondering? Why wasn't that an incomplete pass? Remember it was late in the game, when this happened... Does anyone remember what I'm talking about? (I'll rewind the dvr to see when this was and what time during the game)

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
I think the NFL would also tell you the Robinson hit was legit. I believe Anderson was just saying the NFL might suspend players for violent hits to hold off others (namely Congress) from stepping in and making changes to the game (like Teddy R. did back in the day). By saying the NFL might suspend players, he's saying "hey, look at us we're serious about this (so don't interfere)" even if they don't really plan on doing anything at the moment. It also tells the players the league is concerned about their safety as CBA re-negotiations heat up

Pretty soon everyone will be able to play because defenseman won't be able to hit anyone.

Maybe that should tell us how many people have been playing with them. |

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
Yeah I think teams are more aware and better at diagnosing them now. It's not that there are more concussions, they're just being more closely identified and teams are much more cautious about holding players out.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
There is no 'might' suspend people for illegal/dangerous hits. This offseason they will change the rules and make it mandatory suspension for head to head deliberate shots. Goddell already said so.
The Desean Jackson hit happened so fast and in such small space, that hit was not deliberately dangerous hit and with intent to hurt. The problem with that hit is they put it on super slow motion and of course it might look bad. The Steeler LB (i forget hi name) hit where he hit the Brown player in the ear hole was deliberate and he should be suspended. One of the problems I see is offensive players that are running with the ball tend to put their heads down and bull forward. Now that is dangerous as well. Some helmet to helmet hits are not deliberate and should not be penalized. Creating dangerous plays is on both sides of the ball and defensive players should not be the only ones to be singled out. |

Man if ST was still here and they started fining, he'd be getting fined practically every game.

Re: NFL Might Suspend Players for Violent Hits
I don't know about that. Many of his greatest knockout hits, Taylor led with his shoulder (Crayton hit at Dallas to preserve the win in 2005 / Reggie Brown hit on Monday night in Philly in 2007, etc). Just because a hit is vicious, it shouldn't necessarily be deemed illegal, especially if the defender is making a solid form tackle.
