Re: Sporting News Magazine...
You still need to get a good push with you D line. I like the fact that we have good schemes and caan have our DB lead the team in sacks (or share the lead) but how great would it be to have a 12-14 sack guy on the line year in and year out. Getting that kind of push with the D line helps in pass coverage and can let you attack differently with other positions, not rely on them for sacks.

Re: Sporting News Magazine...
I don't think the defense gave up too many big plays. The only big plays that come to mind are (1) Warner's 30+ yard TD pass, (2) Richie Anderson's 20+ yard TD pass, (3) Testaverde's 40+ yard TD pass, and McNabb's 40+ yard completion to Pinkston.
Most of the big plays came when we were playing a prevent defense (i.e. Testaverde's game winning pass) and were few and far between. I wouldn't sweat the pass rush. A big reason why we're so loaded at the back 7 is because they are the guys who bring the heat in Williams' system. So, while I too would like to see a pass rush from the front four, I'm not worried. Moreover, pass-rushing DEs and DTs are VERY, VERY expensive when they come via free agency and usually take a long time to develop if they are drafted. |
