The reason Taylor is a big hitter is because he suspends himself in air and flys at the ball carrier. He doesn't lose anything in translation. He puts his body on the line when he hits the receiver. Lets hope his weight doesn't cause injuries for him.

He doesn't need to be the biggest hitter in the league. I still think he will be but being a ball hawk is more important. Can you imagine a 4.35 Landry next to a speedy taylor?
Yeah, I wouldn't look a whole lot into this weight loss considering he's not a DE or DT. Taylor is normally coming with such velocity that 20 lbs. shouldn't make much of a difference at all. If anything, it might help because he'll be coming harder and faster. Ed Reed isn't huge, but he still lays the wood like no other.

Well now we can't lay claim to having the heaviest safety in the NFL, but what does that matter?

Good point. I was thinking of starting a thread about this actually. Seems like a lot of guys on the team have really taken it upon themselves to come to camp ready and serious about winning.

I think Gibbs' "hands-off" policy this spring played a big role in that. It's the whole "treat us like adults, we'll act like adults" concept. We talk about class in another thread. I think this an element of that. Having the class to come prepared to work when it's time to get down to work.

Yea, but here nothing has changed. Taylor losses weight and some say he is too small, Lloyd gains weight and some say he is doping.

I get this vibe too, but then I wonder if I am being spun. Lacking big name free agents they've decided on the hard work angle.

But, Gibbs does seem to have his jaw pretty firmly set. I think he gave them the old, "you guys have embarrassed me for the last time" speech after the Friend leak and they seem to have taken it to heart. I'd give anything to have a transcript of that meeting. At any rate, we can be proud of this team. They seem to be mostly stand up guys. It's going to be a great season. I can feel it. Not the usual feeling of past years which was like when your wife/girlfriend asks if her butt looks big (not at all, sweety), but genuine excitement.

Now the question is will this hurt his hitting abilty? I doubt it.
What... he only weighs 212lbs.... Brandon Jacobs is going to love this.

haha. i cant wait for that meeting. i still think ST will knock BJ the f out.

on a different note i believe that ST will be more like a ED Reed, who hits very hard and is only 5'11'' and 200 lbs.

I'd still put my money on Taylor against just about anybody when it comes to hitting.

Re: Sean Taylor dropped 16 lbs.

4.5, kind of reminds you about how much rookies train for the combine, when the emphasis should be placed more on training for the gridiron. I actually heard that Charles Rogers ran a 4.8, thats a huge drop considering he was timed running a sub-4.4 40 before coming into the league. I wonder how some of the NFL's elite would fair if they had to go through the combine all over again.

I think if you did that, scouts might start realizing that the combine isn't really that important.

Re: Sean Taylor dropped 16 lbs.

the legends of the NFL never had the gaudy speed numbers (except for....u kno darrell green) but they are still the legends of the game. I read on a website that Dick Butkis ran a 5.2 before he came into the league, and i think he did decent in his career

Re: Sean Taylor dropped 16 lbs.

I'm not to concerned with this. Taylor is Taylor...He hits hard and with good form (If there is a form involved with hitting). I love the hits he puts on people, but sometimes I would rather have him running back INT's. Witha 4.5 40 yd, this guy is going to scare the lights out of anyone coming of the middle, and make the QB throw elsewhere. He'll still be slapping people around though.
