Re: ESPN reports skins have "no chance"

You guy's crack me up. Its like people look for all these writers who are talking Skins football. If they pick the Skins then they have come around and if they pick against the skins they are morons. ESPN has to have these writers with different opinions or they would be very boring. Like having a talk show where everyone agrees on everything. This board is a fine example of people having different opinions on the skins. We are riding high on Collins because he got OUR TEAM into the playoffs and if we asked anyone before the season what would happen if Todd became our starter only that one guy (for got his name) would have said we would have a chance. Its not like this guy does not have a good point about TC one that most here held until several weeks ago. Everytime I think of TC all I can remember is his first play for us was a pass right to a d lineman for a TD but the more that he plays the more it fades from my memory.

It amazes me what people remember and hold on to.

Wasn't that in a preseason game? You're really holding on to a memory from a meaningless preseason game??

Four Writers I CANNOT STAND:

Peter King
Jason "Uncle Tom" Whitlock
Bill Simmons
Jay "Gay" Mariotti

I don't believe I just read Simmons's crap. *SMH*

Have an issue, Smoot? Here's a tissue...I keed, I keed.

Bill Simmons is a "sports"writer, as in, he writes about sports, but he does it more for comedic value (hence his spot on Page2). The article is based purely on a "system" he has for picking games. If you go by his system, you can't help but pick the Seahawks. So what if Bill "Mr. Boston" Simmons picks the Seahawks? BFD. He's a Pats fan for Pete's sake!

I laughed at the thread title when I first saw it because I just assumed everyone from the Weekly Intern to the CEO of ESPN had all picked the 'hawks...

I know it's the Friday before the biggest game of the year (they all are from here on out), but give it a rest. Take the source for what's it's worth and have a pleasant day.

Haha (although my guy Gregg Easterbrook also is on "Page 2" so ...). Bill Simmons also picked the Titans to get blown out by 27 to the Chargers. Last I checked Vince Young doesn't play defense and Tennessee can bring it on D, I don't see them getting beaten by 27, or the Skins getting pummeled by 15. If Mr. Simmons took a look at the schedule he'd see that, excluding the New England game, the margin of defeat in the Skins other six losses came by margins of 7, 3, 8 (when they allowed Philly to score in order to get the ball back), 5, 6, and 1. All this while playing the 2nd toughest schedule in the league. I can see taking the 'Hawks, especially at home, but his scores are total B.S. (the fact that the shorthand for his column is the B.S. report is the only accurate part of the report).

If you are 118-129-9 (how do you tie?) then why do you get to keep making picks? Shouldn't someone shut you down at that point?

It's almost like he did that on purpose.

Do you guys read his stuff often?
Bohnzie hit the nail on the head when he said:

He is supposed to write more like a fan than a so-called expert and he always mocks himself for being wrong.

That being said, he does try to be logical about his picks so I find it kind of surprising that he doesn't even acknowledge that this team is playing on raw emotion and passion. Normally this is the kind of thing he would consider, especially if it was on the part of his beloved pats, but I guess he's too far removed (in LA) to know how the Skins have been as of late.

Re: ESPN reports skins have "no chance"

You know, I never get too wrapped up into what the media is saying or ESPN for that matter. I take it for it is, another opinion. Don't get me wrong, there are times when it seems personal, i.e. Monks induction into the Hall or Sean Taylor's death. But all in all, I don't let much get under my skin (pardon the pun).

He's a douche, but the bit on Chris Collinsworth had me laughing out loud. Priceless.

Bill Simmons is an insufferable a-hole. The fact that he's a pompous Patriots/Red Sox/Celtics fan makes him even more difficult to digest these days.

I guess we'll just go home. There is no point in playing this game, since ESPN says we have NO chance. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

Re: ESPN reports skins have "no chance"

I actually love TSG, he's a humorist who writes about sports. If he was based out of DC, he'd be full-time homering for us instead of all the Bahstin teams. I don't think that's malicious or anything.

I know we're going all Gilbert Arenas and on every journo who has an opinion that doesn't involve us beating all challengers and trying to turn this into motivation and bulletin board material, but at some point we have to realize that a lot of people just talk about things they really don't have much investment in or knowledge of, because they're asked to rip off an opinion.

I mean, I don't know much about baseball but if someone asked me to write a column about it, I'd probably write something funny that would deeply offend a bunch of fans of various teams around the league, without really trying to. And similarly I get the distinct impression that Simmons really doesn't know jack about the Skins, and is just sort of blathering.

Anyway, never attribute to malice what can more easily be attributed to incompetence. A good maxim to live by

Who cares about Berman, it's been a while since I've seen him pick the Skins.
