Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
The hit could have been flagged for helmet to helmet, but I absolutely loved the effort.
We shouldn't be too surprised about it either, CP has always played balls out. |

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
This was somewhat reminiscent of Portis’ effort last year in pre-season when he got hurt making a tackle. The guy doesn’t care if it’s pre-season, regular season, or post-season, he lays the wood and gives it his all when he is on the field. You gotta love that. I try to tell our kids on our team (that are running backs) that there is much more to being a successful back than just running the ball. Blocking is extremely important.

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
My biggest concern with the hit was that he came in with his shoulder, and knowing that he missed most of last season due to his broke hand and shoulder, well that kinda scared me...

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
You can't play the game worrying about what could happen, that's when guys get hurt.

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
You are right that is why I love it when Portis goes all out, the thought of "what could happen", never enters his mind. All I am saying from a fans POV, is that Portis did hurt his shoulder last year and being a fan of him, I dont want to see him on our sidelines in regular cloths. I think he is the best back we have and one of the best most complete all around backs in the league. KEEP LAYIN' THE WOOD PORTIS!!!!

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
I agree, loved the effort but I thought it was a very stupid play on his part, could have cost him the season

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
Portis will undoubtedly take himself out of this game one day with hits like that.......questionable, unnecessary, etc. (and HIGHLY entertaining)
Until then, he has my utmost respect as the TOTAL gamer and true competitor. Never in my life have I seen a specialty player lay the wood so readily. Gotta' love it!

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
I don't have a problem with Portis getting injured from playing balls to the wall, I do however have a problem with him getting injured like McNabb did for instance.

as long as he doesn't get hurt celebrating im okay... Does anyone remember the lick he put on Al Wilson last year? He took Wilson off his feet in pass protection when Al was blitzing up the middle untouched...

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
it's definitely better to split the carries in my opinion. i guess that may take away from a guy who's on fire. but it will pay off late in the season.

Yes, it was along the Dolphins' sideline.

Re: Portis Blocks Taylor
The best blocking RB was Sweetness. In fact, during his playing days when Walter Payton was asked to envision his best play, he told the reporter it was making a devastating block on a blitzing LB and allowing his QB to throw a 90-yeard TD. This from the then-all time leading rusher. And a guy who NEVER ran out of bounds -- he would hit the DBs on the way out. Portis definitely has some of those tendencies.

I totally agree with Soupermeister and Cowell. Big thanks to Earthquake for the using one of my replies as a quote.
