Re: What this all means for Moss?
This has the potential to help him but I have seen it as the main point in this thread... he gets hurt way too much. I've heard him compared to a thoroughbred horse... when healthy very good, but the slightest injury throws him off. His size really doesen't help too much either.

I do think the lack of any other threat besides Cooley has left him doubled a majority of the time. I do believe he can be a legit red zone threat w/ some more weapons at WR. That's why if the Rooks...Thomas, Kelly, Davis can prove worthy it'll open some things up for everyone else. |

Re: What this all means for Moss?
I think the added depth could help Moss only indirectly. What I noticed most out of him last year were the dropped passes. Statistically, I don't know if it was the worst among starting WRs or anything like that, but what I do know is that in way too many 3rd and long situations when Moss got his hands on the ball he dropped it to end the series. As many have pointed out the passes from JC aren't always perfect but in the NFL if a "#1" WR can just get his hands on the ball then it is supposed to be a catch, right? So the other targets on O might get him open for a bit longer but he still has to make the catch to be dominant.
I've been wondering how reactive Zorn might be if Moss has really terrible performances. Would Zorn bench him for a quarter or maybe even a full game if the replacement is productive? I say this because there were games last year when Moss played so poorly I thought he should have been benched, but then the question of who to put in was always hard to answer. Maybe, if Kelly and/or Thomas develop quickly we'll see a type of rotation emerge where Moss only gets to play when he's performing. Beyond this year I hope Moss is not our #1 WR. Overall he seems to make a lousy possession WR due to his small stature, sketchy hands and overall inconsistency.

Re: What this all means for Moss?
He had some bad games early in the year, w/the GB game being probably the worst of his career. While he may have lost that one, he's also single-handedly won or turned games around, which we saw a lot of in 05 & we saw late last year. At the end of last year I don't think there was any more dangerous reciever in the league. He was healthy & confident & Collins was confident in him. He might not've racked up major stats, but he made big plays in big games, e.g. NYG, Minn. & Dallas.
He's still a home run hitter & brings that threat to the offense, plus he's pretty good on the short stuff if he's hit in stride & able to make some moves after the catch. Let's face it, there are only a few recievers in the league that produce major #s & are good team players & don't gripe when they don't get the ball. M. Harrison, Holt, Fitzgerald, Marshall & H. Ward come to mind. It's a position known as much for media highlights as game highlights. For that reason, I'm glad we traded for Moss, he's been a good player & team leader, always seems to carry himself well on & off the field and has said he likes being a Redskins, unlike the dude we traded for him. He's still our go to guy on the outside & I hope he puts up some big #s again. |
