Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Updated: June 19, 2010, 5:30 PM ET
Source: Redskins agree on Brown deal By Adam Schefter ESPN Archive The Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints have agreed on a deal for Pro Bowl offensive tackle Jammal Brown, according to a team source. The trade is subject to a physical. Brown flew to Washington mid-afternoon Saturday, and is scheduled to undergo the physical later in the day. The Saints' compensation in the deal is tied to the Redskins' trade with the Eagles for quarterback Donovan McNabb. After Saturday's trade for Brown, Washington will be without its third- and fourth-round picks in 2011, but it also will be getting back a later pick from New Orleans, according to a league source. Washington owes the Eagles a third- or fourth-round pick in 2011 for McNabb, based on how the quarterback plays or the team performs. If the Redskins win nine games, or go to the playoffs, or McNabb gets selected to the Pro Bowl, then Philadelphia will receive Washington's third-round pick and New Orleans will get Washington's fourth. If none of those happen, then the Eagles will get the Redskins' fourth-round pick and the Saints will get the Redskins' third-round pick. If the Saints recieve Washington's fourth-round pick, then the Redskins will get a sixth- or seventh-round pick back from the Saints. However, if Washington's fourth-round pick goes to Philadelphia, then the Redskins get fifth-round pick from New Orleans. There is also a conditional 2012 sixth-round pick involved. Should Brown play 90 percent of the plays next season or get voted to the Pro Bowl, then Washington will send its 2012 sixth-round pick to New Orleans. After Saturday's trade, Washington has six picks left in the 2011 draft. If everything goes through, the Redskins will have options at offensive tackle. Brown and first-round pick Trent Williams can play either tackle position. But the initial plan is to have Williams at left and Brown at right. Brown has only one year remaining on his contract. The Redskins have no plans in place to sign Brown to a long-term extension yet, but they ultimately plan to keep him.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I don't think he will get owned Tripp. Brown has been a dominant player before his injury, and I believe even with the injury he is instantly head and shoulders above what we currently have at Tackle. I can personally vouch for him being in shape, I have seen him at the gym every week day this spring/summer.

Huge move....Brown is good for at least 3-4 years at RT. Unbelievable great move by the front office to get a quality tackle, I feel a million times better now with McNabb back there and for the running game as a whole. Wow HTTR

Yeah, McNabb and Brown is a much improved haul from the days where we used to get one year rentals on bad players for the same price. Maybe by next regime, we'll start getting picks for our players!

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Third and Fourth round picks for pro-bowl quality players with a 3-5 year career still ahead of them? Nice.
Do we dare dream that we get 5 years and 3 pro bowls (and a couple SB's) out of each of these guys???

However, with a move over to the right side, he's not going to be facing the other team's top pass rusher 30 times a game. And he fixes the major weakness in our line, which was that the RT position could have previously been exploited between 5-7 times per game at the choosing of the defensive coaches. Brown doesn't give us a pair of bookends at tackle that we can rely on for the next 6 to 8 years, but he'll be more than competent in the role we have for him. I generally give players the benefit of the doubt when it comes to conditioning, but it's certainly good information that he's definately in playing shape and will be a contributor from the first day of training camp.

Also as a disclaimer I forgot to say that we could have the best pair in a year or two, not this year though we will be among the best when it comes to bookends, just not the top pair. Jacksonville has a pretty amazing duo on the rise in Monroe and Britton and San Fran is not far behind with Staley and Davis. In the end though I think Williams is going to develop a lot faster then people think. He might not have a Joe Thomas or Jake Long type rookie season but he's still going to be very good in 2010.

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
"Brown has always had struggles against the pass"??? do you mean in pass protection? He's a huge upgrade over Heyer/Williams at any rate so a massive improvement should be the least we can expect.

Lets hope that our three-headed RB / rushing attack gets going right out of the gate , that will go along way towards our success .
