Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
You just don't want to lose him to a rival in the same division, can't say I blame you.

I agree.....There have been a number of coaches in the league who have found their groove only after being fired. After looking at some numbers, the combined record in 2003 of coaches who previously had been dismissed (Belichick, Dom Capers, Tony Dungy, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer and Dave Wannstedt) was 58-53-1. Belichick and Shanahan have won Super Bowls after being fired, and Reeves has won an NFL championship. Marv Levy made it to the Hall Of Fame after being canned by the Chiefs. Now, valuing head coaching experience dosen't help minority candidates for coaches because not many of them have it. But the truth is as I've stated before, team owners must be most concerned about giving their teams the best chance to win. Considering all relevant factors, HC experience is of vital importance. |

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
We all just want a coach even if it is Fassel, which may have been Snyder's plan all along just drag it on they'll take anyone. Fassel would be such a bad hire but consistent with the ownership and front office of this team. I am weary of this team taking steps backwards every few years. Snyder has yet to prove he can successfully run this team. I don't doubt he wants to win--but he makes bad choices and Fassel is right in line with this team;s history under Snyder.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
This Redskin team as presently constructed is designed to win, and to win quickly. In the current climate, nearly every NFL team owner feels the same urgency. Honeymoon periods have gone the way of leather helmets. No NFL team that wants to win now can afford to train a HC on the job, because the mistakes he makes could be fatal to the team.
Even College head coaches have less to learn than NFL coordinators with no HC experience. That's why it behooves up-and-coming NFL assistants to pursue college HC jobs, as Nick Saban [despite his embarassment in Miami] and Tyrone Willingham did. Each of them probably has a future as an NFL head coach. Then again, College head coaches don't come NFL ready any more than College QB's do. There still is a period of adjustment. Just ask Our former coach, Steve Spurrier who has admitted to struggling with the transition. |

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I don't see anything that would make fassel better than spags. Spags will make our defense fantastic.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
If it's down to those two can I suggest simply flipping a coin? If there is more then two can I suggest eeny meeny miney moe so we can get this over with and start placing our bets as to whether we get CJ or not and who we will draft? Of course that would be right after the "why did DS hire him?" thread.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I think we all should know by now. That Snyder is just going to coach the team himself.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
The only way Fassel is selected as head coach is probably because he will be easier to fire next year if Snyder wants to go after Bill Cower.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I get the feeling it will be Spags. Snyder was just waiting for him to be available.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
If you do a YouTube search of Spagnuolo the first couple of clips have him mic'd up during practices with the Eagles and Giants

The one example I'd like to bring up concerning how its done is the owner of the Memphis Grizzlies. In a recent press conference he took full responsiblity for the Pau Gasol trade, and at the same time explained why he did it. Though I don't agreee with the trade I still respect him because the guy fessed up and gave me valid and rational reasons for what he did. Of course this has been said a millon times before. Anyway thanks Smootsmack for pointing out the YouTube videos. Sounds like Spags has got a bit of an accent, though I can't really put my finger on what type.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
Well he really shouldn't say much because the process is not complete, and secondly if he starts saying "I" then people will just start complaining about how VC is just his lapdog
