Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I say let's go with Spags. Young guy, hungry to show what he has as a coach. We're a defensive minded team, so we might as well continue with that. If Spags doesn't work, then Snyder can go after Cowher. If Spags does work out, then he has a coach for the next 10 years (hopefully). Fassel already had his time with the Giants, but that was a long time ago. Also, someone mentioned how Spags would be a Redskins coach, unlike Fassel or even Mooch, coaches from other teams who are now with the Redskins. Mark my words, if DS picks Fassell, and if he doesn't work out, the same people in here that are "ok with Fassell" will be blasting DS for picking him.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I'm saying Spagnuolo is going to be the guy, but I think Fassel is the better choice.
Did anyone know that Spags first gig in the NFL was with Washington in 1983 as a player personal intern? Guess he will have come full circle should he get the job. I'm still routing for Fassel, but Spagnuolo is somewhat intriguing. |

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
Not sure i care anymore. Let's just hire a HC and get started w/ next season. I'm just ready to start being a fan again. I'm not really sure if our HC matters that much seeing we already have all coaches in place. Please hire somebody soon!!

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
Fassel.. Our offense needs more development than our defense and he's got a long history of developing young QB..

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I'm on the Spag wagon. I'm wondering what will be done with the current players we have on deck, but if he gets the job I'm sure he'll do fine by everyone. I'm not sure he's ready, but let's put him to the test.
Whoever we do sign, how long do you think we sign them for?

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
definitely spags i think we need a young HC who will be here for a long time. Only thing i have to say is that when you have strahan umenyiora and tuck on your d line your defense better be pretty good, so i think spag is getting a little too much credit there but i still think he is the best choice

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I dunno. Whatever. Whoever gets us to the Super Bowl. I can't be bothered trying to figure out which one is more qualified. But the West Coast offense is already set so its probably going to be Fassel.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
One thing to consider - I read that Blache was almost ready to retire so maybe getting Spags or Meeks would be the better option if Blache decides to hang it up sooner or later. Anyone know how old Blache is?
I am at the point of just hire a coach soon and hope whomever they hire can have great success. If it is Fassel than I'll support him. |

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
While I haven't been a fan favorite of second chance coaches, history has proven that second chance coaches can deliver first rate results. Someone once said [quote] "If recycling can save the Earth, then recycling NFL head coaches can save a franchise.
There is no substitute for head coaching experience. The enormity of the job is such that an assistant coach can't possibly fully prepare for it. The ideal head coach candidate not only has NFL head coaching experience, but has at some point in time been successful in the NFL. Sometimes their shortcomings are exposed in the course of losing, but more often than not they emerge better prepared for another opportunity. The team that hires a coach on the rebound is at a better vantage point to identify the coach's weaknesses and structure the organization to minimize them, and the coach has a better idea of where to seek help. Spagnuolo is an assistant, what assistant coaches and cooordinators do is totally different from what a head coaches does. Coordinators call plays, put in game plans and work basically with one side of the ball where a HC has to have knowledge of every aspect of the program including special teams, weight program, media and so forth. Hiring an NFL coordinator with no HC experience at any level involves a lot of projection, and projection can be risky. The idea is to hire a coach who after careful study, you feel gives you the best chance to win. |

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
I am for Spags, lets let a young gun get an oppertunity at this job and stay in town for a while. While many of you might rip me for this next comment, I feel that Spags most recent experience coaching in the NFC BEAST will be priceless in the years to come, and he can allow Zorn to work with #17. Fossil is old and you gotta say that his most recent job in BMORE as O.C was far from amazing, so out with the OLD and in with the New HOT FIRE!

Just because your young, doesn't mean your good. And before anyone says, "Oh well, she's probably all over Fassel's junk anyway". I'm not. In fact, I don't want the guy. But at least when you're making your assessment of who you want, don't make the uber weak comment, "He's a young guy."

I'm all for giving coaches opportunities, such as Jim Zorn for QB Coach to Offensive Coordinator, but at the head coach level I'd rather these guys cut their teeth elsewhere (such as, oh I don't know, New York for seven years) before assuming the mantle of Redskins Head Coach.

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
My question to all of you is why Spags?Your D was in the top 10 and you must admit the personel is different than the Giants so why bring him here why not a Offensive head coach who can help a team with a young QB?

Re: Spagnuolo or Fassel?
If these are the only options, I gotta go Fassel. The scouting combine is in two weeks. Should we blow up the staff now? Spags would want to have some control over staffing and if his D is to be installed it must be with like minded coaches. Fassel would at least be a verifiable CEO of a veteran coaching staff. I'm not a fan of his, but he would do a good job given the backassward situation that's been created.
