Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois

This is ShanAllen's 4th draft. As we enter into their 4th draft, here's a little recap/reminder of past drafts with my own take on each:

2010:
Trent Williams (1)
Perry Riley (4)
Dennis Morris (6)
Terrence Austin (7)
Erik Cook (7)
Selvish Capers (7)

Hits: Williams, Riley.
Misses: Everybody else.
Three years down the road, a starting left tackle and a starting ILB. Williams took a huge step forward last year and, barring injury, will hopefully continue. While Okung out in Seattle has earned some pro bowl recognition, I am okay with this pick as I think Williams is about to enter into beast mode and be a fixture in post season honors. Riley, after a non-descript start, and IMO, had a breakout 2012 and has really a solid player for a 4th round pick. He is the kind of in-house developed player we need to keep getting and devolping through the draft.

As to the misses, the average number of players stickng for more than 3 years out of the 7th round is pretty abysmal percentage. No great shakes here.

2011
Ryan Kerrigan (1)
Jarvis Jenkins (2)
Leonard Hankerson (3)
Roy Helu (4)
Dejon Gomes (5)
Niles Paul (5)
Evan Royster (6)
Aldrick Robinson (6)
Brandyn Thompson (7)
Maurice Hurt (7)
Markus White (7)
Chris Neild (7)

Hard to label anyone in this class a clear hit or a clear miss - Kerrigan is solid and flashes potential but, IMHO, a first rounder should consistently challenge for pro-bowl recognition. Not sure if you can say that about Kerrigan.

For the rest of the class, this is the year for them to step up. Right now, only [EDIT: Markus White] is no longer with the team. On one hand, if everyone else develops like Perry Riley did, we could have a terrific class here. Hell, if half the names mentioned become regular solid starters (or major contributors like Helu as the change of pace/3rd down back) after an initial slow production, it would still be a very good draft.

At the same time, even w/out knowing who we draft, and by the end of training camp, I could see Gomes, Royster, Robinson, Thompson and Nield gone. I think Hankerson, Helu and Paul get a year to show up, but it is not beyond the realm of probability that they could be gone also.

2012
Robert Griffin III (1)
Josh LeRibeus (3)
Kirk Cousins (4)
Keenan Robinson (4)
Adam Gettis (5)
Alfred Morris (6)
Tom Compton (6)
Richard Crawford (7)
Jordan Bernstine (7)

Griffin & Morris. If we drafted no one else, this would be a great class. Throw in Cousins. Amazing. I think Crawford goes into the hit column as well, he had some rough games but he also had some really solid plays as a DB. As a returner ... Banks who??

LeRibeus, Gettis and Compton. Just don't know enough. Apparently they are very high on LeRib. It would be nice if all three pan out - especially Compton - but draftable OL are, to me, pretty much replaceable after the 4th round. Sooner or later we are bound to hit on some of these guys.

Crossing my fingers on Robinson and Bernstine. Not much else to do with them.

All in all, lots of question marks with some real solid hits and now giant whiffs. I imagine more of the same this year.
