Yes. A guy on IR doesn't count against the 53. Pretty sure league cracks down on abuse of IR. Back in the day, Gibbs would do just that. Two days before cut down, borderline guys would mysteriously come down with all sorts of hamstring, quad and other muscle pulls/sprains and strains.

Re: Redskins Cuts
The difference between a cut and IR is salary cap. If you cut a guy, contract is ended, so if he had any prorated pay, that would be accelerated, but his base salary is gone. An IR guy's salary cap hit is the same as if he were on the active roster.
We don't have a lot of salary cap room so stashing guys isn't really an option for us I wouldn't think. Carriker went on the PUP list Washington Redskins @Redskins 16m #Redskins moved DE Adam Carriker from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. So his status will be determined after week 6, but he won't count against the 53 until then. |

Re: Redskins Cuts
I think we're done with the required roster moves after activating Hurt and releasing Mouton

Ahh. Didn't know about salary cap and IR. I thought under Rule of 53, only the active guys counted.

Re: Redskins Cuts
That means we can let Rocca go too because RG3 will punt also.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I think they keep Hurt over Pashos. Hurt gives them depth at both tackles and both Guard spots having played all at some point. I think they TB game is the decider between Hurt v. Pashos.

Re: Redskins Cuts
I'm all for moving on from him, he shouldn't be more then just a camp player. He turns 34 this season, and that seems like a weird direction to move in.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Unless Pashos is outstanding this week, probably should cut him and go with Hurt. If Hurt continues to be, well hurt, then we could probably re-sign him during the season if we need him. Im thinking the priority roster space is gonna be needed for the secondary positions with all our guys already injuried or still healing or drug suspended...

Re: Redskins Cuts
I gotta think our backup LT is Compton. I mean no one keeps just a backup LT. Come game day you can't have 9 active OLinemen so the backup T has to swing to both. The focusing on LT is just to get him prepared for that position because of its importance. One would think he could swing to RT if he is good enough to play LT.

Re: Redskins Cuts
Sorry JR. I got my info wrong. I was told that Hurt is staying on the active roster. What my guy actually meant was staying on Active/PUP roster
