Re: Skins v Eagles post game thread
I have been reading some of the analysis from various sites and watching the film & field shots. Kelly's offense created big lanes in the run game by spreading the D wide. Also, used different read options to force Fletcher to make the choice. Really singled out Fletcher as the option target. Once he committed, Fletcher simply did not have the recovery speed to make up the lost step. In addition, safety play was pretty miserable - bad angles, missed tackles, etc.
Solid tackling would have made a huge difference. This offense works b/c of McCoy. Period. Not Vick and not Jackson. They help obviously, but, if you don't have a McCoy level runner, this O don't fly. Also, defense needs speed b/c the offense isolates defenders and really makes them responsible for a lot of ground. Fast, disciplined linebacking, IMHO, is the key to stopping it. Good designs, but nothing good tackling wouldn't slow down. Also, the concept needs a big field. Between the 20's, this offense is likely to make some yards. As they get into the red zone, however, field shrinks and so will the lanes both passing and running. Still - gotta tackle or any "scheme" will beat you.
