Haslett shouldn't be let off the hook just because Shanahan wanted a 3-4 here. |

I think Skip turns it into more of a soap opera than it really is.

When you're losing, everything is drama.
When we were on that win streak last year, nobody had anything negative to say.

Re: Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions Pregame Thread
Haslett is responsible for the defense but Shanahan bears more accountability cause he's the head coach. We have an old LB that can't run, no true nose tackle and free agents that are playing poorly. This is one of the reasons he was fired in Denver, couldn't get his defense together. In the end, Shanahan is responsible for every player that plays on the team. To me it's a combination of lack of talent, guys not playing to potential and some poor coaching.

Re: Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions Pregame Thread
Part of me hopes that if we don't make the playoffs anyways...I hope our defense continues to suck so we upgrade our defensive coordinator.
Going 500 or slightly lower isn't going to be enough to yank Haslett. I never liked this hire...I grew to be ok with it...but why settle for a chronic underperformer...I just don't get it. This year our defense sucks...but c'mon guys...last year they were 28th...that sucks bad too...we are just witnessing possiblly the worse NFL defense in the last 50 years over the last 2 week. Is it really any different that last year? nope...but they are definately underperforming. I really think the offense is a fine NFL level unit...not as "incredible" as most thought last year...we just overperformed and went on a nasty streak...mostly against weaker NFC east teams too. We BARELY made the playoffs while overperforming both offensively and defensively...and our kicker was perfect. Say what you want...but some of that is players...and some is coaching. I just don't understand why coaching can't help us more. I saw some adjustments offensively last week...and it showed improvement, and we will likely see even greater improvement this week...but not defense. Unlike others, I think Shanny and son are good...probabaly top 10 on offense. Who on earth would trade their defensive coordinator with HASLETT? you got it....NO ONE! Am I calling for his head?...why not....we already have a much more successfull defensive coordinator on staff...give him the keys to transition now....and worry about the long term after the season. The scheme will not change and it is IMPOSSIBLE to get worse...think about that....impossible, ZERO RISK PROPOSITION. I know they will get better...and people will feel better...but the long term problem will remain. Haslett has to go. The sooner...the better. I just wish they would make an executive decision and tear off the bandaid before it does more damage than good when it is far too late.

Re: Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions Pregame Thread
Someone earlier posted Haslett's defensive rank each of his years that he has coached. It is astounding how terrible he is, to still be a coach in this league. Only twice in his entire career did he ever have a defense ranked in the top 10. Most of his years he was nearly dead last. How can he still be coaching in the NFL? Our defense right now is dead last in the NFL i believe and also may set a record for the most yards ever given up in NFL history. I think they have already given up over 1000 yards so far.
Does Haslett get fired mid season if we continue to lose? Or is the mentality that since Shanahan and likely everyone else is gone after the year if they do terrible, does Snyder just stick with them all. I think Shanahan will have to do at least 7-9 to keep his job. What do you think?

Haslett on the other hand took some teams down the toilet...remember he was a head coach too...that didn't work out very well. I have reached a turning point with him, he is the weak link, the defense will not improve over the long haul as long as he is here...even if we do get a couple free agents in the off season. I'd prefer a coach that has upside or at least an average track record...I'm sure there will be a solid D coordinator during the off season...perhaps a fired head coach like a ron rivera or a lovie smith (no research done on these guys) or our own Raheem Morris

I still want GWilliams back but that could never happen. Im not sure who could come in here and succeed. Rex Ryan could be fired but after Hard Knocks, I lost all respect for him and he is too much of a D***hole for shanny to deal with. Rivera could be a good addition but not sure about his familiarity with 3-4. I honestly don't think the team likes Haslett. I've never seen Haslett with good body language or smiling, and worse than that, he has never been a winner. He is a BLEEPING LOSER!!! I'm worried while we will be in play for FA's next season, that Orakpo walks to a better team and rejects whatever we offer. It was something in his frustration in the GB game that had me thinking- oh shit he is unhappy and like Laron, we are going to lose him. Rak could be a bidding war and plenty of teams would be willing to take him from us. Haslett is out and Raheem walks, who fills in IDK. I doubt Slowik gets promoted. |

Re: Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions Pregame Thread
You guys are silly. The last time Haslett's D was legit bad was Nov. 12, 2012.
We won the NFCE despite several key injuries. You have nothing to measure it by this year--the O has consisted of turnovers and 3-n-outs in first halves. My 2nd point would be: who's around and available that you would you want to replace him? Exactly. |

Re: Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions Pregame Thread
I think the entire team was a little high off of that run, and expected to continue that run into week one of the regular season, even after going 4-0 in the preseason. Maybe losing those two games gets our guys' heads back in it, and we make some noise. Either that, or that run last year was a fluke.
Whichever it turns out to be, I do think Haslett is coordinating his last season here, and that is a good thing. |

The D is definitely bad, especially in missed tackles. That said, the whole league set a record last week with something like 11000 yes thrown, going off what Gil Brandt said. Some of it has to do with the leagues emphasis on safety, and heavy fines. Our one true hitter was fined forty two thousand, and rightfully so by the rules the league wants to enforce, but then if other defenders are second guessing as they go in for tackles, hitting will be sloppier.
Defenses league wide, with only a few notable exceptions, are giving up a ton more yards this year. |
