I posted this question on Extremeskins.com, "Shannahan and Pete Carroll were hired within in days of one another, who's done a better job building their roster and why, plus name one position we're better at compared to Seattle". Of-course there were a lot of excuses.

Shanahan is a bad GM. He is not a good coach. He does not do very much coaching. He's a community organizer in charge of a billion dollar football operation. He's over his head.
