Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Actually Jimmie ward had 7 interceptions in 2013, but no one else above him- beats 6 ints

I would be surprised if we go DL with our first pick, slightly less surprised if we go OL

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
I agree that Bucannon is better in coverage than most give him credit for. 6 INTs is 6 INTs, after all. He can't play man-to-man that well, but as long as he's playing zone, his pass coverage is solid. And he hits so hard that he forces a lot of dropped passes. But the best part about his game is that even though he hits ferociously hard, he's a reliable tackler. That alone could make him a starter immediately in our secondary.

I'm not sure what position we'll address first. I thought WR. Now I don't think so. I lean TE or DB (could be CB or FS or hybrid) If it were me, I'd go BPA at a position of need and I think you could find some good starting caliber LBs at #34

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
BPA within reason. IE say you have a tackle and WR with very similar grades (in this case lets say the WR is graded at 8.7 and the OT is graded at 8.4) go with the tackle. If you have a CB that grades out at a 8.9 and your next player at a position of need grades out at 7.8 then either trade down or take the CB. So long as we don't have a repeat of the dreaded 2008 draft I'm fine with BPA.
Not to sound like my cousin you know who but I kind of hope they come away with a viable TE. Not that I don't like Jordan Reed, on the contrary, but I do have concerns about his durability going forward. Hopefully the first year bumps are just him adjusting to the more physical nature of the NFL particularly having to adjust to a 16 game season. Plus I think TE is my favorite position in all of football. I'm the type of guy that would rather have Tony Gonzalez and Antonio Gates in their prime above even Megatron and Randy Moss.

I like the idea of BPA, I also like the idea of Jace Amaro at 34, for some reason I have become enamored with him

I would not be at all surprised if we nab Amaro. And that will be fine with me.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
BPA at a position of need is the way to go. The only positions I don't want to draft at #34 are QB, RB, WR, K, P, and OLB.
SmootSmack mentioned a versatile FS/CB at #34. Sounds like my boy Lamarcus Joyner is the man. WalterFootball has him going in the 3rd, though; if anyone drafts that guy in the 3rd or late 2nd, they'll be arrested for stealing. That would be f****** awesome to draft Joyner in the 3rd. And I certainly wouldn't be mad if Jace Amaro is the pick. We need another TE, whether Reed stays healthy or not. |

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Immediate starters from the draft at positions of need seem to be at db, guard, and right tackle. In that order. And if Jason Verrett is there at 34- need to snatch him up- this guys skills are top 10 talent.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Jason Verrett covering slot should be shutdown-like. The Victor Cruzes of the nfl should be worried. The more I think about it - the less it seems like he'll be there at 34.

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Priority #1 to next season's success is making sure our starting ILB opposite Riley is able to cover. Whether it be through crook or through hook, we need to make sure we take care of that. At this point it is the most effective way to improve our win/loss percentage.

The best option for that is on the Redskins roster - Keenan Robinson. If anyone sees a better option, let us and the Redskins know because I sure can't find a good option in the upcoming draft unless you start considering an OLB like Shazier. Most of these OLBs in college can get pushed around pretty easily by offensive linemen though. |
